Steroids and implantation

I have spoken to some of you here about this but I feel I need to still get some more info before deciding whether I should ask my clinic during our next attempt which will be our 3rd transfer. I’m concerned about side effects that steroid can have on myself and the baby if I do get pregnant. I’m reluctant to do the NK cell tests as they are very expensive and some clinics think they are controversial as apparently the cell level fluctuates. I would be interested to hear if you have used it and if it worked? Thank you x

Hi Kari55 on my last transfer we used steroids and I'm currently 18weeks pregnant. I didn't really have any side effects from them maybe I was a little more edgy and hotter than usual. My previous 2 transfers ended in miscarriage at 6 weeks. I'm not sure if the steroids helped but I'm glad we tried them at least. My consultant said very little crosses the placenta. Xx

Hi Penders, thank you for letting me know. It’s great to know that the steroids made a difference for you. I usually tolerate all meds pretty well so hopefully it would be the same with steroids. Wishing you a healthy pregnancy xx

Hi Kari.

I have tried steroids on my current cycle for the first time (currently 5 weeks and 5 days ) after 2 failed implantations.

Too be fair I don’t know if that was the factor that made difference as I am also on clexane and we never know if it is only down to luck.

But I can say that I am very happy to have asked my clinic for it. Like you I didn’t test NK cells.

I don’t feel any side effects so far, maybe because the dose is not that high: 10mg morning and 5mg lunch time.

Do you have any other immune/allergy related issues such as Asthma or eczema? These can be signs of an over active immune system and can correlate with high white blood cell counts and NK cell counts. If so I think it is worth taking the steroids. I have lots of underlying immune issues (asthma, eczema, genetic markers for Lupus) and paid for the NK tests and found my NK cell & white blood cell count was sky high. Trying steroids, intralipids and very restricted diet this current cycle. Had more tests half way through and my count of white blood cells had dropped within normal range and NK cells had also dropped to just above normal range. Cycle outcome tbc though!🤞

I haven’t got any allergies apart from occasional hay fever in the summer. My husband has an autoimmune illness so he is also very strict with his anti inflammatory diet and I’m eating pretty much the same as him as it’s easier to cook etc. But there is something that prevents an implantation despite good embryos but it might be just down to luck or an abnormal embryo. Fingers crossed for your next cycle x

Hey, I took steroids during my last cycle and am nearly 20 weeks pregnant. My consultant said he didn’t think the NK cell testing was worth it but being on prednisolone wouldn’t be harmful, I stopped taking them 2 day after ET.

I do believe there worth trying if you haven’t, I’d had 2 mmc and 2 unsuccessful cycles previously x

I think my clinic recommends to take steroids for 12 weeks but I will ask if it’s possible to stop earlier. Thank you x

Hi. I took steriods for 12 weeks with our FET. I was maybe a little hungrier on them but didn't impact on my weight gain over my pregnancy. No side effects for my little boy either so personally I wouldn't be concerned taking them. X

Hi Kari55, I had a MMC on my last cycle so this time I have been prescribed steroids, currently on 2ww so hoping it will have a positive effect. Had no side effects and if I get a positive result Fri will have to take them up until the 12 week mark x
