Can't stop crying and upset by every little thing, is it the progestrone? Any advice?

Hi All,

Thanks for all your help since I joined the forum. I had my transfer on Monday and have been on the progestrone pessaries from the Friday before. Does progesterone have any emotional side effects?

I don't feel PUPO, no sore breasts, no cramping etc but for the last couple of nights I've really struggled to get to sleep and when I wake up I feel really weepy. I honestly can't stop crying when something sets me off and every little thing seems to trigger tears.

Has anyone got any experience of this?

Thanks x

Hello! Yes. I am so emotional and have been since starting on the drugs. That's almost my only symptom - besides terrible gas. Big hugs - hang on in there xx

Thank you so much for the reply. I was terrified I was the only one! Have you found it better to let yourself cry it out or is it best to try to distract yourself? X

Let it go. It's a good way to release energy and stress. Have a really good cry. I was crying as I drove along in the car ha ha

Thanks hun, I honestly might break out the Frozen sound track and sing Let it Go. My therapist always says I'm really bad at 'feeling my feelings' Maybe the IVF will have the added benefit of helping me get in touch with my vulnerable side!

Yay! Xx

Oh definitely! I haven’t had experience with pessaries myself yet, but I have been learning about hormones and yes they would have a huge affect on your emotions. Combine that with the stress and worry and no wonder you feel so emotional.

I have a strange suggestion that might help, sauerkraut (good organic stuff), I found it really helps me feel less emotional and more clear headed. I know it sounds weird but it’s to do with the good cultures in it. Hope you feel better soon and get that BFP xx

No experience with the medication but literally the only sign i know ive ovulated is because i go from 0 - emotional mess within a day! And remain that way until i come on my period. My acupuncturist said its the rise in progesterone xx

Thanks. It feels like I've been hit with a bus of feelings and tears in the last 24 hours! I appreciate you taking the time to reply x

It’s totally the progesterone.

Thanks hun. Honestly I wish I felt even a little bit pregnant to justify all the tears. Glad to know that it's a normal side effect at least x

During the tww any symptoms you get can’t be relied upon anyway, either as pregnancy or period coming, because early pregnancy feels pretty much exactly like before you get your period if it feels like anything at all! It’s a really hard time. I have my fingers crossed for you xx

Thanks so much. It's silly because now everyone being so nice to me is making me cry - I swear I'm just a hormonal mess 😂

At least you’re not an angry mess- progesterone during the 2ww always made me angry. My poor husband had a hard time!

Yeah I'm really grateful that my other half is such a chilled out person. He helps keep me grounded and you ladies help keep me sane! X

Aww sorry to hear that. Totally normal under the circs - a stressful time for mind and body combined with a load of hormonal drugs 😬

I agree with Camillage - have a good cry, never did any harm. And maybe try a little gentle yoga or meditation before bed to help with sleep? Big hug xx

Thanks hun. Gonna try meditating before bed tonight. Hopefully that will help me to get some proper sleep at least x

Possibly, instead of crying I was always on edge ready to snap xx

Thanks for the response. I wasn't expecting to feel this hormonal but I'm glad that I'm normal and other people have emotional reactions too x

Oh totally. I cried twice at the office while on progesterone and I have never ever done that in the past 10 years!

Hi hunny I would say it the progesterone, strangely enough it’s down reg that does this to me, I think we all react slightly different to the drugs, hopefully the longer you take them the levels may balance out a bit, but certainly don’t hold back the tears 😘x x x
