Egg collection Friday, high risk of OHSS

Hi ladies,

I really enjoy watching everyone’s journeys. It’s especially wonderful to see quite a few of you are within a couple weeks of me along this process. As many of you know, this is my first IVF cycle and it’s so helpful to feel like I’m going through it with friends.

My scan went great this morning and my egg collection is scheduled for Friday! I have three large follicles, 10 in total that look like they’ll contain mature eggs by Friday and many more small ones. That coupled with the fact that I’ll have 4 days with my husband while we go through this together (thanks to the weekend and an American bank holiday for my DH’s work), I was thrilled. I still am.

I knew I’d be at a higher risk of OHSS as my AMH level is 66. I’ve been on a low dose of stims and all seemed to be going smoothly. Then, my estrogen level came back quite high today at 18,700. I was told I’ll likely develop OHSS and we’ll most likely be doing freeze all. Thankfully we’d actually been planning to do elective freeze all due to great FET success rates, much higher than fresh at my clinic for my age group. I’m still a bit disappointed. I’d started to let myself day dream about being PUPO by next week. I’m also feeling a bit scared of getting sick with OHSS. Hopefully it’ll only be mild and I am beyond grateful to have my hubby to take care of me.

I’m still feeling quite excited to get to have my egg collection and looking forward to seeing how everything comes together in the days after. Thank you to everyone who has provided me with comfort and support through this time. I really can’t imagine going through this without you. Also, the IVF hypnotherapy CD I purchased as a recommendation from a couple other ladies has been a lifesaver for my anxiety. Xx

The waiting game is the hardest but it sounds like a freeze all was the best decision. I had my eggs collected in August and I unfortunately got OHSS. I wasn’t hospitalised but I was so so uncomfortable for about a week and ended up taking medication to reduce the excess fluid. I was gutted to have to wait longer but it was the right option. My best advice is just to make sure you have enough time off work to just relax after EC. And of course drink as much water as you can.

Wishing you all the best. Take care xx

Thank you for your message and for sharing your experience with me. I’m sorry to hear you got OHSS and were unwell for a while.

I think you’re right that it’s probably for the best. I saw a couple of your other posts that you’ve finally had your transfer. Congratulations! I really hope this is finally your time.

I will be drinking plenty of fluids and eating as much protein as I can to help minimise the symptoms if I get them.

I’m wishing you a quick passing, smooth 2WW! Xx

Oh how exciting. It's great to get another hurdle out of the way. Certainly doesn't sound like you have any issue with your eggs anyway! Wow what a great number. Hopefully all will go well. We look forward to hearing how many you get. Hopefully you won't get ohss xx

Yay cool you'll be getting trigger happy tonight 😁

Really hope you don't end up getting OHSS. Sounds like your clinic has done pretty well though in getting the balance right. I can imagine it must feel disappointing not to do a transfer this cycle but much better to make sure everything is just right for your reunion 😊 Even before my transfer it felt like a big milestone to get to embryo stage, like reaching base camp! Ooh and you can indulge a bit over Christmas too..?

Completely agree the support on this forum is amazing. We're in good company!

I’ve been really impressed with our clinic so far. Based on the scan, all looks fantastic, so I think they’ve done as well as they possibly could.

It is a little disappointing, but I honestly feel it’s kind of meant to be. I’ve been wanting it from the beginning. It really wasn’t until this week I started thinking about doing a fresh should we have the choice. I just hope we get something to freeze and I’ll be beyond happy.

Yes, that’s a major bonus. My husband and I will take a trip to Belgium and I can do some Kriek tasting, which is my absolute favourite! Xx

Well done your clinic and well done you - sounds like everything has gone to plan, even down to having the weekend to recover with hubby by your side 😃

I slept right through mine (under sedation) and woke up feeling really refreshed - hopefully you'll be the same 😀 xx

That sounds lovely. A nice, deep sleep sounds like exactly what I need.

Kriek is a cherry beer. It’s a little sour, but not too much and it’s also not too sweet. I love the fruitiness of it. It’s from Belgium, but you can get it here. Xx

You’re very sweet to check in on me. I’m doing really well, it was so much easier than I expected. We got 10 eggs! I just have a little cramping, but nothing worse than a regular period. Hubby is taking great care of me. I’m just looking forward to getting our results in the morning.

How are you feeling? Xx

10 eggs is a great clutch! So glad to hear it was better than anticipated and you're not too sore. Do keep drinking lots (of water not Kriek just yet!). Fingers crossed for good news in the morning xx

Hang in there. I have been borderline ohss both times. My oestrogen level was 18,000 at my last blood test before collection. My amh is 56 something. I was closely monitored and dutifully drank my two litres of water a day. I watched my urine output for colour changes etc. I got the go ahead for transfer. Hopefully you will too but if not, it’s not the end of the world. It just means your body will have chance to recover and be fighting fit when transfer does happen. Good luck xx

Ps - could you send me a link to the cd you’ve been using xx

Thank you for your kind, reassuring words. I’ll be sure to take extra good care of myself and hopefully it’ll be better than I’m expecting. 😊

I’ll definitely post an update when we know how many eggs and how the fertilisation goes. Xx

Here’s the CD I bought: amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B004LY...

It def not a nice thought or prospect. I got it when I had my egg collection. It was not pleasant to like others they gave me some drugs for it and tad uncomfortable but manageable. Best wishes with it. Exciting times!!🙌🏻🙌🏻
