Positive outcome with very low sperm count ????

Hello to you all

I’m a mum to my beloved 25yr old daughter. Her husband has been diagnosed with very low sperm count after they have ttc for 3 years. They have had one failed icsi attempt earlier this summer and are just embarking on round 2 which is their last NHS funded attempt. It breaks my heart to see what they are going through and to read all your posts. I just wondered ....... is there anyone out there who has had a BFP result with icsi with an extremely low sperm count ? She so needs to know that it is possible to conceive this way. I wish all of you going through the struggle to conceive all the very best of wishes and peace of mind when faced with difficult outcomes.

Fingers crossed for happy outcomes for all of you

Hi. My husband has a zero sperm count and had to have it surgically retrieved. We got our BFP on our 3rd round of ICSI and our little boy is 12 weeks old tomorrow. Sending positive thoughts and baby dust her way xx

It is possible, of course it is. You’ll probably find ladies on here who’ve had success in similar situations. But it’s worth bearing in mind that ivf sometimes doesn’t work even if everything is 100% textbook, you have a 30% chance each time, 40% at best. You are a great support to your Daughter, posting on here for advice xx

in reply to Tugsgirl

Thank you for your reply. I know it only a 30% success rate from my research. Seems so low 😢 but as I keep reminding myself. It only takes one sperm !!! Xxx

We had icsi in the same situation as well as problems on my side. We got our Bfp on the first frozen cycle! ( failed on first fresh) They only need one sperm! We are now 30 weeks :)

My OH has a low sperm count. I also had infertility issues. We has icsi and our first round worked. We have a beautiful 10 week old little girl. I really hope out works out for your daughter and her husband. I'm sure knowing she has so much support from you means the world to her. I would have been lost without my mum.

Hey! We had to use ICSI as my husbands sperm count is extremely low. I got a BFP first time round but sadly ended in a chemical pregnancy. So it is possible! We are doing our second round in January 🤞🏼

in reply to silverlini

The bery best of luck to you for January and hopefully a new baby in a new year xxx

My husband has a very low sperm count and we are undergoing treatment. We havent had succes yet our clinics have always said its not a problem as they always have enough sperm to fertilise the eggs....Im sure you are aware but for ICSI they only need one sperm per egg. However the biggest thing to remember I guess is the success rates of IVF/ICSI in general is only around 30% so whilst she has agood chance and age is in her favour there are no guarantees unfortunately! Best of luck to her!xx

in reply to Cinderella5

I wish you all the best for your treatment As you say it just takes one sperm but such a lot of emotion involved 😢

On goodness yes, we've been doing this for over 2 years now and its heartbreaking at times not to mention the fact that it takes so much out of you but at the same time I always think "you've got to be in it to win it". I do think there is a certain element of luck involved, bit like the lottery really.xx

in reply to Cinderella5

Certainly a lot of luck involved but as you say. Got to be in it to win it and I think we might start buying tickets for that lottery as any future attempts will be self funded !!! xx

Ouch yes its very expensive but hopefully it wont be necessary! She's luck to have you researching and supporting in the background!xx

Thanks xx

Hi, my partner has a sperm count of 1-2 million per ml, we were told we were very unlikely to conceive naturally (we have in the past after around 2.5 years trying before any investigations). We had ICSI in September and were successful on our first cycle. There is definitely hope xx

Congratulations!!! I hope you enjoy your pregnancy and new baby There is definitely hope and it is so lovely to hear success stories xxx

Hello, my husband and I were given a 1% chance of conception naturally due to his extreme low count. I’m currently 13 weeks following our first go with ICSI. 🙏🏻 Praying everything will work out! Your daughters age is really positive so she should remain hopeful. Take care xxxxx

in reply to MrsH007

Congratulations !!! How wonderful for you. Enjoy your pregnancy and your new baby xxx

As the other ladies have said, it only takes 1 sperm to fertilise an egg, so it doesn’t matter how low the count is. They pick the best looking sperm and inject it.

The other ladies are right when they say there is still a low chance of it working, but the same is true for couples with no fertility problems. Not all embryos fertilise for them and for the ones that do, not all develop normally and stick - the couples trying just have no idea and assume the sperm missed the egg. In fact my clinic told me that when you compare a round by round basis, there is a actually a better chance of falling with ICSI/IVF than naturally. The challenge is that couples trying naturally do so several times every month as opposed to once every 3 or so months so end up with what seems like a higher success rate. Where the only issue is low sperm count/motility/morphology, I am fast starting to believe that it is just a numbers game and you’ll get there eventually. I’ve got PCO but my clinic don’t believe that was a factor in my hubby and I not conceiving and put it all down to his sperm. We got 4 embryos out of our cycle - 2 that failed (1 chemical) and 2 BFPs. I hope your daughter’s next round is the one that gives her her BFP.

in reply to Lynnr54

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. It is indeed a numbers game I hadn’t thought of comparing icsi to a natural conception but that is a very interesting thought ......

Delighted to hear about your BFP. Congratulations !!!

This forum is wonderful xxx

We had a positive outcome from our second round of ICSI, my husband has a very low sperm count (low everything actually) and we ended up visiting Dr Ramsay privately as we were paying for our cycle anyway so wanted to throw everything at it. We also both improved our diet and took several vitamins. We got a bfp and my son is now 13 months old. We only ended up with one blastocyst and had no frozen embryos, so it really does take one. Wishing your daughter and her husband the best of luck. It is a very tough journey and it sounds like they have great support from you. x

My partner has very low sperm count- our chances of conceiving naturally where so low- on one of his samples he only produced 8 actual sperm. He had to produce a few samples before egg collection to ensure there was enough for ICSI.

We had a fresh round and frozen transfer through NHS which both failed and when we went private we had another frozen transfer which resulted in our 19 month old little girl.

We have gone through another fresh round at same private clinic and I am 39 weeks pregnant with another little girl 💗💗

It’s so important for her to have her mum to support her- you are amazing for coming here for advice xx

Wish your daughter all the luck in the world xx
