Injectable progesterone

Hi guys,

After two failed rounds of IVF and not so great reactions to progesterone in either gel or pessary format (irrated lining and bad stomach pains) I am thinking about using injectable progesterone next time. It seems quite common in US but not in UK.

Has anyone on here used it? Is it any better? We would have to pay for it as we are no longer NHS funded. I’m not scared of needles and can deal with any discomfort.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I am on lubion which you inject subcut like the stims meds. Doesn’t hurt too much doing the injection but you do get a sore lump after the injection which lasts about 36hours. I felt more confident with these than the pessaries.

I have the same issue, would be interested to see the answers to this. I react badly to pessaries, i get loose bowels (the opposite of what is expected).

xx

Sorry to say but I am glad I’m not the only one. The gels seem to bring on bleeding quite soon after I begin using them.

Morning! Sorry to hear about your failed cycles.

I used an injectable progesterone called Lubion. I had to use it along side Utrogestan x3 daily. If I remember correctly, the lubion is £8 a vial and I needed it all the way through to the 12 week scan (sadly we had a MMC at 10 weeks).

Its no different to the other injections you need to use through IVF. I hope they agree with you more than the gel and pessaries xx

I used pessaries and injectable Lentogest 2x a week. X

In our fresh cycle, I bled before test day so the doctor suggested injectable progesterone for the frozen transfer. We used prontogest which is intramuscular and every day. My husband did the injections and we alternated butt cheeks 🙂. It gave me a lumpy butt and the needle is bigger than the stimulation meds but you get used to it.

We got a BFP and had to use them until 12 weeks. They made me super tired but it was worth it. I don’t know if the progesterone made a difference- the research suggests there is not much difference in levels in the body between the different types.

Ive used lubion several times. It’s no more painful than any of the needles during stims but it’s oil based so we had a couple of problems with the needle once or twice. We’re pro’s now though 🙂 xx

Thanks Tugsgirl. Hopefully I’ll take to it like a duck to water 😊

I used lubion for my last cycle having used cyclogest for the previous 3 and found it so much better and easier. I’ll be using it again on my next round.

Good luck xx

Injections definitely helped me! My first IVF failed due to pessaries only and second was switched to Gestone, and I’ve ended up having healthy pregnancy and son! I was on NHS funded cycle, they haven’t got problem to switch me into injections although by default they starting from pessaries which is I guess less expensive. Good luck x
