To transfer today or not...?

Hi everyone

Have just had a call from clinic (day 2 after egg collection) saying that one of our three embryos has degenerated. The other 2 are average quality. We have option of transferring both today or just one and leaving the other to see if it reaches blasto and can be frozen. Otherwise we could wait to see how they’re doing tomorrow when one might be a better quality, then transfer tomorrow or Saturday. Both embryos have 4 cells and are progressing.

Does anyone have any advice? The nurse seemed to think it’s very unlikely that either of our two remaining embryos would degenerate having reached this stage so I’m tempted to wait until tomorrow morning and see if one is looking to be better quality, then transfer tomorrow or Saturday.

Any thoughts appreciated! 😃 x

Personally if I only had 2 average ones at this stage I'd just transfer both however there is always a risk that both will take. I always think they are better back where they belong than in a lab. My fear would be that I only had 1 to transfer and the other wasnt good enough to freeze. My NHS clinic didnt do 3 day transfers and we had 2 good embryos on day 3 (the 3 others were a mixed bag) but only 1 good one by day 5. Good luck with your decision!xx

I would transfer both

We were left with two 8 cell at three days and transferred both. Got a BFP. At time I was gutted as so much emphasis on 5dt but so glad we transferred day 3. Good luck with your choices xx

Morning, I just posted the same as you as I never saw your post!! Me too, I lost 2 embryos so now have 2, the clinic are phoning in an hour with an update but I don't know whether 1 or 2..... argh!!! Just no idea, I feel if I do one I will have a back up if it is unsuccessful, but I said I wouldn't do IVF again, so am totally lost with making this decision! anxiety is all time high!!!

Difficult decisions indeed. Not advice as such but I had 4 fertilised, 3 embryos made it to day 3. I left the 3 to get to blastocyst but only 1 of them made it to day 5 (hopefully a little trooper). Just to give you an idea of what can happen. Good luck whichever path you choose, I know it’s nerve wracking. I was led by & happy to take the advice of my clinic/embryologist xx

Hi

I would wait until tomorrow and transfer 1. But in the past I would have been straight in the car on the way to the clinic to have both put back without hesitation. I think the extra day will allow you to choose the best one and take some of the unknown out of this intense process. And I think, as well as having another left for a sibling or second try, transferring one allows your body to focus all your bodily nutrients and energy into one success. Also, there are medical implications of 2 that I decided against knowingly going into.

Good luck whichever way you decide xxx

I don’t know what to advise, but I wanted to wish you good luck with whatever you decide to do. xoxo 😘

Hiya, I would probably transfer them both today. There is the risk of multiple pregnancy but perhaps it will increase the chance that you’ll achieve pregnancy. Ultimately it is your decision. Follow your gut instinct, from my experience it’s usually right xx

Hi, what did you decide? I had a similar situation and my clinic didnt really give me an option (I am sure I could have said no) but their recommendation was to put both back in as they do better in situ than in a Petri dish. That was day 2 and it was a grade 2 and a grade 3
