New job opportunity in the middle of my IVF journey - Advice

I guess I know the answer but would appreciate your opinion to give me reassurance.

I've recently received a fantastic job offer (close to my dream job) but have recently started my first IVF cycle. Having a baby is my absolute priority, but I guess I'm so frustrated if it doesn't work that I miss this professional opp as well.

At the same time, my current job allows for home working and its all under control. The new one would be challenging and involves traveling..

I hate the thought that I've had to partly put my life on hold these 2 years I've been TTC and dealing with my endo diagnosis. At the same time, I guess that's what it takes... and I don't really need to push myself any more...

Good luck all of of you with your journeys xx

I always make big decisions by what I think I'll regret when I'm older, prob a bit random, but just how I think. I will never regret putting family etc before work, however we do spend a lot of our lives in work and so it's good to enjoy it.

Personally if it's your dream job, or nearly there, I would take it, especially if u feel u'll regret not taking it. If the ivf works (really hope it does) then u will find a way to make it work. Sorry, hope this comment is helpful 😕good luck with ur cycle xox

This is a hard one but I would take it. I've put jobs on hold before, been offered them and turned them down at the last minute just in case... I always worry about the extra pressure etc. But truth is, all jobs are a nightmare when it comes to this.

I was made redundant a couple of weeks ago (2 weeks tomorrow) and now I really regret not taking opportunities. But it is totally up to you and what you can handle. Also working from home is good for appointments.

Good luck. Xxxx

Personally if this was me I think I'd go for it! Ive been doing IVF for over almost 3 years now and you never know if it will work first time or take a few go's...or work at all, however the opportunity of a dream job is there for the taking. Im sure you would still manage to do treatment if you take the job! Good luck for both your cycle and whatever you decide to do with the job offer!xx

I had a similar situation and never took the job, then IVF was postponed due to abandoned cycle. I kick myself for not taking the opportunity.

You will know what is best for you and your family but I wish you all the best in whatever you decide.

And you are right putting life on hold for all this sucks! I miss the days of carefree plan making.

xx

I think you should take it if you like it. New job will keeps your mind off the ivf journey which is tough. When your ivf works, this will be fantastic and you will be able to manage because if you have been offered new position you have been given this chance not without a reason your new employers/boss know that you’re capable. If this Ivf not success this time round (but be positive) you will have something to focus on and maybe the it will be easier for you to cope. I would not give it up opportunity, we don’t know the ivf outcome until later in process, and having life on hold is really difficult which might impact you in future . Sometimes life write own plans and everything might be solved itself so I wouldn’t overthink this but go with the voice of your heart and desire. All the best xxx

We’ve been trying ttc for 3.5 years and I’ve got my first cycle egg collection tomorrow.

Six months ago I went for a mega promotion (which I didn’t get) and almost at the exact time that I knew this cycle would happen, another promotion opportunity has come up. I know I am the best internal candidate for it (sorry if that comes across as conceited) and I know I wouldn’t be fair to myself if I didn’t apply, after so long trying without success, I just have to think about the bigger picture, keep career and marriage strong and just keep hoping that one day, the last part of the jigsaw falls into place.

That said, right now I’d only go for internal jobs, just in case, as the mat leave benefits where I work are really good!

How much stress and travelling would your new job entail? I’m all for not putting your life on hold but you also need to have an honest conversation with yourself about what your stress levels are right now and what impact the job would have on your life and where you fertility journey is going right now. If you think you can manage the stress of the new job or the joy of it is greater than the stress then by all means go for it. Would the travelling impact on your IVF cycles at all? I needed some time to just focus on my fertility journey- there have been lots of career opportunities on the way even during that time but my focus had changed.

There’s no right answer- take your time to reflect and then don’t dwell on the decision that you have made xxx

It’s not really the same but we were torn about setting our wedding date; not knowing if I’d be in treatment or pregnant and if I was how far gone would I be? In the end we just said “To hell with it” and set the date! We were so tired of putting our lives on hold, we’d been doing ivf for almost two years when we got married in June. Good luck with your decision xx

I've just had my ivf round 4 cancelled. They told me to come back next month to see if hormone levels are better, but I'm not going to because I have a contract I really want to do. It will delay my treatment for between 3 or possibly 6 months. I know I could cancel the work but I don't want to, partly because I've had lots on hold this year to do 3xivf and I need the money, and partly because I feel I've been professionally out the loop and missing a bit of my personality since engaging with this journey. So that's my decision just now.

Could you just take the job and hope this cycle works / you fit in another one?

If you create embryos you can freeze them for later use. It may not be what you want, but modern science makes it an option. Very best of luck with whichever way your heart takes you! Xx

Good luck whatever you decide just follow your heart as to what feels right for you x

Definitely follow your heart. You will know what is right for you. I agree with the other ladies too. Personally I started a new job just before my first round of ivf started. I am so glad I did as that was coming up for 4 years ago now. So much of our life is on hold during this process it's nice to feel that something can be right xx

Follow your heart and do what feels right for you. In my own experience I have put IVF first to the detriment of so many other aspects of my life. If I had the time again I don’t think I’d put the rest of my life on hold to the same extent. Very best of luck xx

Like other ladies have said. Follow your heart. I think if you decide to do whatever that doesn't feel right you might be drilling on the fact that you didn't choose the other option which will also bring you stress. Best of luck x

Such a tough one but as others have said, go with your gut instinct and what you really want/know is right.

From a practical point of view (and this may not apply to you), I would advise to think of maternity leave. A lot of companies will only pay more than statutory pay after you've been with them a certain amount of time. Personally, I know we would really struggle financially if I only received statutory pay, and it would mean going back to work a lot sooner than I would like to, so changing jobs while TTC isn't an option for me.
