Review appointment after miscarriage!

Hello all, i hope everyone is doing as well as they can??? ❤️

I had my review appointment today and I actually feel much better emotionally and feel ready to start with my FET our last chance on the NHS. My consultant wants me to go fora hysteroscopy as it was difficult to get to my uterus on transfer day and has explained the FET protocol and it sounds so much lighter on your body than the fresh cycle!!!

I just wanted to ask if there is anything i need to know about the hysteroscopy is it a painful procedure? And what exactly will they or can they see and find out? Thank you in advance xxxxx

I had the hysteroscopy in 2013 but unfortunately I can’t really advise on it as a stand-alone procedure as mine was part of a biopsy and lletz treatment. I know that it’s similar to a smear.. wishing you luck with it and for your fet xx

I think it depends on whether or not you have any treatment at the time. I did have a local anaesthetic but like I said, I was having other things done. The link above says with some women it only takes 5-10 minutes xx

Really sorry to hear about your miscarriage but good to hear that you are now looking forward to your next FET, it helps to have the next transfer to focus on. I had a hysteroscopy in January this year where they removed a small fibroid that was blocking one of my tubes. I had a general anaesthetic for mine as that was the clinics policy and was glad that I did, do your clinic offer this?

When I woke up after the procedure i had slight cramping, bit like period pains but this soon wore off and I felt fine for the rest of the day. You are 'under' for such a short time that the ga really doesn't effect you at all. I was really scared having this done but I needn't have worried it was definitely not as bad as I thought it was going to be! All the best to you xxx

Yes they did offer it me but they also made me aware its a longer waiting list and i don’t necessarily need it so i wont be going for this option. I just hope and i am praying for better luck this time round xxx

That makes sense and as tugsgirl said if it's exploratory they will be in and out very quickly! All the best to you xxx

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage but glad your appointment went well. I’ve had 2 hysteroscopy’s I was awake for 1 and had GA for the other. The one I was awake for was uncomfortable but not unbearable, it’s advised to take some pain relief before hand. I did have more bleeding after the one I was awake for and probably was uncomfortable for a few more days after. I had biopsy’s taken during both of mine and they’ll be able to have a look around your uterus to make sure everything looks okay xx

So good to hear you’re feeling in a better place after your appointment.

I’ve had two hysteroscopies, but both to better understand the extent of the scar tissue in my uterus and to take away the adhesions at the same time, so I had a general anaesthetic both times. I think the only effects were from the adhesion removal and GA effects as opposed to the hysteroscopy itself. I’ve heard others who have had very quick, straight forward procedures otherwise.

For me, it felt like a really positive step, as good to get a better sense of what was going on so they could better prepare my lining in the FET.

Good luck with your frozen cycle xx

I'm glad you're feeling better emotionally after your review. Wishing you lots of luck with the procedure and, of course, your FET XX
