Scented products on transfer day?

Hi all, I’m having my transfer tomorrow and I’ve not been told not too, but are scented deodorant etc ok on transfer day?

I was told no scent for egg collection and I’ve only just thought about if it’s the same during a transfer?

My appointment is before clinic starts in the morning so it’s too late to ask now, so I was hoping to get a little advice from you all x

No purfume or strong scents as it is toxic to embryos.

My friend and I are at the same clinic, I had transfer in September and was told no deodorant/perfume etc. but my friend had transfer yesterday and embrologists said deodorant is fine.... unless I knew for sure, I would go without. I didn't use anything scented at all in September.

Good luck. Xxx

Fab thanks

I only thought about it tonight that of it affects the eggs coming out surely scents affects embryos going back too

I think I’ll definitely stick to unscented just in case

Thanks x

I'm pretty sure I was told no scents on egg collection and transfer day. My clinic has posters everywhere saying it can harm the eggs, so not to have it on for any procedures. See what others say but might be safest to avoid. I was so paranoid for collection I refused to even use shampoo just wash in just water, that's probably a little crazy though.

Good luck for tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply

I stuck with no shampoo on collection too! Made me feel better about not harming the eggs.

Hiya, I was always told no perfume or perfumed body lotions etc for embryo transfer. To be on the safe side I went completely fragrance free, including anti-perspirant. Wishing you lots of luck for tomorrow. Hope all goes well for you xx

Hi Lou! Make up, really? I understand the Fragrance theory but I have no clue why make up would be banned! Surely not? X

I know! Thank god I never saw anyone I knew 😂😂 💕 xx

I totally panicked last time as I had used very scented shampoo. I spent most of the day of transfer walking around outside hoping that the wind would make it less smelly. I also had scented deodorant on.

It was the only time I have so far had a bfp... x

Hi Angharad24. Best not to use strong smells and smoke on clothes. Sperm especially hate it and eggs are not far behind! Try unscented, it still does what it says on the can! Good luck! Diane

I must admit I have always wondered this as all the nurses seem to wear makeup and I’m sure they must all wear deodorant 🤔 but I’ve always gone ‘au natural’ and then sprayed my deodorant after transfer! Xx

Thanks

Made my partner go scent free too just in case he comes in too x

I always thought it was just to do with the anaesthetic for egg collection and sedated ETs, never heard anything saying it hurts the eggs. Fascinated!

I did a light swipe of deodorant but was told no make up, no nail polish, hair spray or products and certainly no perfume or body spray.
