Hi I’m 31 (on 30th sept) I have been trying to get pregnant since last November when I came off the mini pill. I have been diagnosed with PCOS, and hadn’t had a period since Feb, felt funny beginning of Aug so took a pregnancy test- found out I was 1-2 weeks, tested a week later and said 2-3 weeks!! However a week later I lost this pregnancy and took subsequent test showing not pregnant. I have seen a gynaecologist who will put me on clomid to ovulate but I’m in a pickle as to what to do! Should I wait to see if it happens naturally again? I don’t want to over stimulate my ovaries with the drug, or sit around waiting if nothing will happen 😔 would love to hear your stories and any advice. Thanks xx

Hi hun.

Firstly so sorry for your loss, I had one a chemical pregnancy last year. It’s so cruel & heartbreaking.

I don’t have PCOS but do have endometriosis which has made getting pregnant much harder ( I had 2 surgeries I treat it this year) I took a round of clomid 50mg dose last month & I’m currently 4.5 weeks pregnant very early days & are cautiously hopeful. I was worried about aggravating the endo that had been removed but it’s been okay I took half the dose he gave me 👌🏻 You must do what feels right for you. The clinic should monitor you on clomid to keep an eye on it. xoxo

Thank you Hun, it is hard when it’s something you are desperate for but I’m sure my time will come!

Congratulations on your fantastic news, I hope all goes well for you and wish you a very happy healthy pregnancy 😘

Can I ask, did you have any side effects from using clomid? I hear they give you mood swings, headaches etc? Xx

Thank you.

I know it is especially after a loss you want even more 💔

The side effects I had was hot flushes ( which went soon after taking them) & tender breasts. It did make me ovulate later ( just a heads up there) I ovulated 2 days later than normal ( i surged cd 15) I used clearblue digital ovulation tests which detected the Lh surge ; it was either ⭕️ for no surge or🙂 for a Lh surge much easier than looking at lines!! Test twice daily.

Clomid can make your estrogen rise more so don’t use the clearblue dual hormone tests as you’re likely to miss the surge.

Alternatively there is an online clomid calculator that work out best days to try 🙂 xoxo

Hi Scheepy18. Try not to worry about taking Clomid if you need to. It actually works on the pituitary and hypothalamus glands in the brain, to tell them to send a message to the ovaries for one of them to ovulate, so just kick-starting them into action. Of course try naturally if you prefer, as you will know when you want to use the medication. Good luck with whatever you decide, and of course for success either way. Diane

It does sound like you’ve had a pregnancy in normal timescales for trying. I’m sorry to hear you lost it. I imagine your gynaecologist prescribed clomid because of your pcos so it really is up to you whether to take it- I think you have a chance of falling pregnant again without it but it might speed things up x

Thanks for this, it’s a really positive message! With having no periods then falling pregnant, I was wondering if it was just the coming off the pill that had sent my body into a weird sleet state - my gynaecologist and doctor said i wasn’t ovulating so wouldn’t get pregnant naturally... I think I might leave clomid till jan to see if this pregnancy has kickstarted my body back to doing what it should, but then I’m also nervous I’m delaying things and I’ve heard it can take up to 6months to catch on when using clomid *sigh* thanks so much for all your responses though, means a lot 🙂 xx

I think if you want to try naturally then go for it. I take clomid and it’s worked for me with no real side effects other than hot flushes. I take provera to jump start my periods which is the progesterone and that affects me much more. If you do go on clomid they’ll put you on a low dose to see how you respond so you don’t over stimulate the ovaries.

Interestingly enough after I had a miscarriage in June after getting pregnant on clomid and I have discovered I’m pregnant again, but this time it’s happened naturally! Which I am so shocked about as we have been ttc for two years now.

One other thing i was told by my clinic is that ovulation tests were unreliable due to the PCOS. When I took the clomid we would start trying once my period stopped and carrried on for about 3 weeks just to make sure we covered all our bases! So romantic!!

Wishing you lots of luck. X

I have PCOS and an underactive thyroid and we were adviced to have ICSI straight away ! We only had two eggs collected, my fresh transfer failed but my frozen cycle was successful! Best of luck which ever route you take 💗
