Couldn’t reach the ovary!

Hello.

We have just had our 2nd round (out of a three round package) with very upsetting/ frustrating results.

During our egg collection, the doctor kept trying for 45 minutes but said my ovary kept disappearing up between my bowel and my bladder. So despite everything having been really positive up to that point- no eggs. They couldn’t get anything from my left one either.

I feel so .. well I don’t know. Sad. Angry. Confused. Useless.

The pain after egg collection was worse than the first time and all I could do was lay in bed, crying, feeling wretched and thinking how it was all for nothing. All the money. All that time off of work. The daring to let a glimmer of hope in after the sadness and disappointment of the first round.

The doctor had said , pre op, that getting no eggs was a very low risk (5%) but I had not idea that there was a risk of the egg being there but him just not being able to grab it. Like one of those arcade games with the claw!

So now we have one round left. All paid for with borrowed money, so it will be our last chance.

I guess I just wanted to have a moan/ wallow in self-pity but also to see if this is something that has happened to anyone else?

Thank you.

I think my ovaries are quite high up anyway but they somehow managed to reach in round one- the eggs just didn’t fertilise.

I don’t know what made it so difficult this time.

What an awful experience. Can the clinic actually class it as a round if the collection wasn't carried out? I'd query it as I don't think it should count. Sending hugs xx

Hi. It is classed as a round from the moment you start injecting (even though you do that yourself and pay separately for the drugs).

We haven’t been back in touch with them yet- this all happened last week.

So sorry. Sending love ❤️

Hi im so sorry to read this and can understand how you must be feeling. To know that there are follicles there but they haven't been able to reach them must be totally frustrating for you especially after all you had to go through emotionally and physically to get there. Have you asked about keyhole retrieval? I've not heard of it, its just a thought however they do other fertility procedures that way. I would definitely ask about this round not counting. You've had egg collection previously and probably lots of scans, so it's not like they don't know what they are dealing with. I wish you luck xx

Thank you. Yes I have lots of questions for them when we have our next consultation x

I’m so sorry to read this. How disappointing to go through all the prep and for it to class as a round. Hoping your next round is the one ☝️ 💕 xx

Sorry to hear your news. My friend always has keyhole retrieval cos her ovaries were moved prior to cancer treatment. It may be worth asking about it. X

I’m so sorry to hear this, such a difficult time for you. Couldn’t they retrieve them through laparoscopy? I think NHS clinic mentioned this to me that it might be done as a last resort. Sending lots of love xx

You poor thing this must be the most frustrating and upsetting thing, bless you! I have a high tricky ovary that can't be retrieved from vaginally so I have to have abdominal egg retrieval, maybe worth asking about? Wishing you lots of luck on the rest of your journey xxx

Thank you.

It wasn’t a problem the first time so we hadn’t talked about other possibilities.

Hi. That’s so rubbish. I would just confirm if it counts as a round or not. I had a round excluded due to failed fertilisation so I can imagine if they didn’t even get any eggs they shouldn’t count it.

Thank you. I will definitely ask a lot of questions and read all of the small print. X

I'm so sorry, that sounds horrible :( definitely ask a lot of questions, and if anything can be done to influence this. I know it's so crap to leave egg collection with nothing to show for it, it feels really rubbish, so I send much love and strength. I hope you'll take some time to absorb what happened and do some lovely things for yourself. Good luck for whenever you do round 3 xx

That exact same thing happened to me in my 2nd cycle. The consultant managed eventually to retrieve 1 egg but my ovary had moved that much he had to pierce through the womb I think. When I woke up I was in much more pain than the 1st retrieval and had to medicate for a few days after too. Unfortunately my 1 solitary egg failed to fertilise so that cycle was over the very next day. That cycle I struggled with the most to get over but I think it was because I had to wait the 2 weeks before I bled so I had all these hormones running around inside me preparing me for pregnancy which made it 100 times worse!!!

We are now 23 weeks pregnant on our 4th cycle so it only got us down for so long and then we went right back at it!
