Fragmin tips please!

Lizzielizzielizzie profile image

Ok, ladies who have been doing fragmin or clexane for a while, any top tips? They’re little stingers of injections but at least they’re a pre-filled syringe this time so no drawing up and mixing!

I know it’s going to bruise my tummy but... Will it bruise less if I ice it? Before or after injecting? Does rubbing the area help? Hit me with your top tips please!

I've been on clexane for just over 3 months now. Tbh I just inject- if the needle goes into my skin easily I don't bruise but if it stings on the way in or has a little drop of clexane already coming out (quite a few of mine have this happen when I take the top off) then I bruise so I always wipe the end to prevent it. I test a few areas with the top of the needle first and find one where I can't feel it and it normally slides in easily xx

CC2018 did you used clexane during you stimulation phase also. I got SLE and my new clinic haven’t put me on clexane during stimulation and I’m a bit worried. Thanks

Although I’ve only done heparin and clexane twice for a period of two weeks for both, I find ice really really helps! Not an ice cube but an ice pack so it’s really nice and numb. Then put the ice straight back on afterwards, apply pressure (don’t rub) for about a minute. I found this was much less painful and I bruised less severely xx

No rubbing at all. If there is any fluid on the needle when you take the tip off. Tap it off. Insert it with the slant of the neddle at an angle towards the skin. Squeeze the skin before inserting and gentle firm pressure. Ice helps before emla cream if it gets too much helps too.

Good luck xxxx

Thank you. I’ve never heard of emla cream, would I get it from the pharmacy?

I got mine online. Maybe you could. It's what they use sometimes before your going to get a cannula in xxx

Is it like a numbing cream? Assume ok to use in pregnancy if you’ve been using it?

Yeah put ot on 30 mins before. Yeah it's fine to use xx

Thank you all. This morning I used my ice pack to numb the area both before and after, also made sure I was putting the needle in in a place where it didn’t hurt. Also wiped the drop off the needle before beginning. Consequently I have a teeny round bruise, versus the bruise from yesterday (my “supervised” injection) which is more than three inches square. So these were great tips xx

Don’t rub and pull the needle out slowly. I’m just about to restart tonight for my second cycle. I’m dreading it. I found the needles were really blunt and the injections sting. Good luck
