HyCoSy inconclusive - help!

Hi there,

First time poster and I would really welcome some advice! I had my HyCoSy on Thursday abc the Doctor could only definitely see on tube. He says that I need to go for a laparoscopy to check for sure. I’m really upset and feel that they should try again before doing invasive surgery. Can’t help but think it may have been a spasm as I was really tense and would just really like another go. Does anyone have any experience of their doctor being willing to redo the test or perhaps to try HSG first? I’m just not really sure what the surgery will achieve? Either the tube will be blocked or not - they are not going to try and unblock it so what’s the point in going through surgery with time off work etc for no benefit? Maybe I am missing what could be achieved but it seems so unnecessary to me. Should I just go straight to IVF?

I’d be really grateful for any help you could give!

Thanks!

Hey! I had similar but had an inconclusive HSG first, then went for a hycosy to double check.

Can you get a HSG? Def do that first before surgery and even a 2nd hycosy if they ever do that.

We had a massive panic as we thought our tubes were blocked too and the doctor signed us up for laparoscopy!!

In the meantime we had a hyscosy and everything looked fine - both tubes clear, so laparoscopy was cancelled.

Definately don't jump into laparoscopy, and don't panic - these tests are inconclusive all the time!

Thanks so much EB! So reassuring to know it’s not just me! Defo agree that a second test is the way forward before surgery! X

Yes I was EXACTLY the same as you - did not want surgery, unless of course we were 100% sure we needed it.

If it is any consolation we just conceived naturally from these inconclusive tubes ;)

Oh Congratulations EB! You must be thrilled! Do you mind if I ask if you conceived using and medication e.g Clomid or Letrozole? Xxx

We had a failed IVF and then conceived naturally. Bonkers really. So no meds for this pregnancy. I am 16 weeks.

Best of Luck and hopefully you can get some further investigation without surgery to put your mind at ease xxx

Thanks so much and huge congratulations! Xxx

I was really glad I had a laparoscopy as I fell pregnant the first month afterward even though I’d had no natural pregnancies for two years of trying. All they found was a tiny bit of endometriosis which they removed. But they were also able to carry out a cervical dilation and hysteroscopy at the same time. I did miscarry unfortunately but I felt reassured that everything was in working order inside me. I fell pregnant naturally again within the year but again miscarried. We then found out there is a problem with my husband. But I really feel that a laparoscopy was worth it as it seemed to sort me out, if that makes sense.

Thank you Lizzie. That’s helpful if I do need to go through with it. I’m just not convinced that my tube is blocked and I think that it went into spasm so I’d like to check again before surgery. Thanks so much for your reassurance and good luck! X
