Hello ladies, not posted for a while, hope everyone is well!
I am due start my injections at the end of next week and i’m slightly anxious about actually injecting, i’m sure its not going to be as bad as i think its going to be, but i was just wondering if anybody used or know of any numbing cream i can get for the injection site? X
It actually doesn’t hurt! The needle is so fine it sort of goes in with little feeling honestly! Just plunge it in with one smooth movement you will be surprised I promise! My first round I found a little bruise soother gel pouch slightly warmed up was soothing on the stims injection site afterwards as it’s just slightly ucomfortable (not painful). Cetrotide is a bit more stingy but you’ll be used to the injections by the time you start on that, and I chilled the bruise soother ready for cetrotide as cooling felt better. After the first couple of rounds I don’t bother with anything on the injection site as it’s honestly nothing xx

It doesn't hurt honestly! Like Orla9298 said, like on instructions just do it in one quick motion rather than slowly and you won't feel it. I tried slowly and it was sore! Just do it in one quick motion :). I'm on my fourth injection I started this week and just do what makes you feel comfortable. I have to do it myself so I feel like I'm in control of it. Lots of luck it's really okay I promise I was in your shoes a few days ago but now I'm happy with it all xxx
Hi! I hated needles before I started on the ivf journey. But during my last cycle there was a day I had to do 3 separate injections and believe or not I didn't mind doing it. I could now inject every day for the rest of my life if I had to and if it meant I got to carry and have my own baby. I find it better if I just go off somewhere on my own where it's quiet, I inject slowly that way I don't bruise and make sure I pinch the skin well. It will take you a few goes to get it to how you feel comfortable and you may find it easier if you get your OH to do it for you. Good luck xx
Like Kirsty I had to do it myself to be in control of it, it was much better for me like that. I let my hubby do one in round 4 or 5 and never again, he plunged the liquid in way too fast! 😂
I used an ice pack to numb the skin and it worked a treat. A Local anaesthetic cream you could use is called Emla but I’m not sure if it’s prescription only. Good luck with your cycle xx

I’m on my 4th day of injections and honestly the build up was worse. On Monday night I hardly slept thinking about them the next day.
I’ve also been doing them myself because having my husband doing it would stress my out more! My advice would be to do it as quickly as you can don’t sit around thinking about it beforehand.

Honestly try not to be nervous, it's not that bad! I know Emla cream can numb the site but don't know if you'd be able to get that or not. You could try an ice cube to numb it instead but once the first one is done you'll get used to it....the thought is worse than the actual jab! Sit back against a chair or the toilet, pinch an inch, if you look closely at the needle you'll see it tapers off to a point then slide this point in first at 45 degree angle. You'll do great, try not to worry!xx
I was petrified and now I'm on day 8 and it certainly is not as bad as I thought it would be. I use an auto-injecter device they gave us during our lesson which helps me as I don't really like looking at the needle and having to push the meds in. I could easily give an injection to someone else, (I'm a GP) but not to myself! And I don't want husband doing it either - he draws up the injection though which helps. Don't think too much, just do it, if I dither then it makes it harder.
I was a bit annoyed at all the people that said "you won't feel a thing" because I do feel a little sting, and it would have been easier to manage if I had known that that was normal too! I might get one of those bruise soother gel pouches that Orla9298 mentioned as soon I will be on three injections a day.
In terms of numbing cream, most of them take at least an hour to work - so you will just be building up to the injection more and it could make it more stressful?
Would be good to hear how you get on - but you will find a way and it won't be as bad as you think x
I’m having IVM next month hopefully, to avoid the injections and all the medication involved. I’m really not good with that stuff at all. Fingers crossed for you xx
Not a numbing cream but I sucked a boiled sweet whilst injecting, the “nice” sweet sensation helps take away the sting of the injection.
