Stick it in me...

Well, my blood results are in and I'm all nice and normal which is a relief 😊 I knew I didn't really have any reason to worry but it's like when you go to the airport and you know with absolute certainty that there's no reason security should stop you but you can't help worry that someone might have slipped a condom full of cocaine up your bum without you noticing.

So, I'm all booked in for my injection lesson and wondering what to expect from it? Do you actually inject anything on the day or is it just about loading the needles? Do they give you written instructions? Is there a test at the end of it all?! Can they fail me?!

I'm excited and scared in equal measure about actually starting the treatment. It's ridiculous really, I've donated blood loads of time, I've had tattoos and all the tests haven't bothered me so far so it's not that I don't like needles, I think it's more the thought of doing it myself? I can't even pluck my own eyebrows because my brain tells my hand that it's going to hurt so my hand is reluctant to move! I just need to stop being an idiot and tell myself it's for the greater good, well either that or tell my boyfriend to stick it in me... πŸ˜‰

Hope you're all doing well whatever stage of the journey you're at. Sending positive thoughts to everyone xxx

Hello! We had our appointment yesterday for drugs/injections. It was super quick - we were in and out in about 20-30 mins! No actual sticking of needles in, rather just a quick demo of what to do for the down reg needles (which are tiny!) and then the stimulation & trigger injection. The nurse said they could go back over the stimulation and trigger injections at further appointments as well so we get see those again. I was going to try sniffing the down reg drugs but after seeing the needle and realising it was the same size as my acupuncture needle, I am going to try that first. If I don't get along with it I asked if it would be ok to switch to the sniffing drugs and the nurse said yes. They also booked me in for my first scan (for 2 weeks after taking down regs) and checked that our consent forms were signed. That was it! Start injections on Wednesday. I am a total needle phobe but I plan on trying to do it myself (acupuncture has really helped me). The plan will be to numb the area with ice/numbing cream, and then to bite into a hot chilli when I do the injection - to try to distract me! But like you say, in the end its going to be worth it so I'm really determined to just get through the process. Good luck to you!

At our facility it was a quick 30 minute appointment to go pick up drugs and then be shown how to inject. They showed me how to set up complete needle and then got me to inject myself under their direction. You'll end up a pro in no time :)

Aww, thanks for your reply! Yeah, I can see it being one of those things where after a few days I’ll think β€˜Why was I even worried?!’ xxx
