How long did you take off work after egg collection?

My work are not understanding at all. They have no interest, sympathy or understanding and all they care about is me making time up, using holiday etc..there isn’t a HR policy in place for this..

I am using a days holiday for egg collection and just taking one day after to recover. What do you all think? How long did you take?

I went back to work the following day without a problem. You will be tired afterwards due to the sedation but also the emotional stress. You can return to work after your transfer if you want, its your preference but there is no medical reason not too. I am sorry your work are not making it easy for you. An additional stress I am sure you could do without.xx

Hey i hope your ok, thats all iplan to take aswell. If you are worried get a sicknote? And save your holidays for later on. I felt like I couldn’t take any time off i some times feel they cant carry on without me but then i think ofcourse they can and they would so i should be thinking about myself in this moment in time, just as you should. I took the full 2 weeks off and I self certified for the first week and got a sick note for the week after as they can’t say anything then. My first round failed so I also had an extra week off with a sick note from the doctor as I was not up to going

Straight back to work. Luckily my work were on the whole ok about it although they did try to make things difficult at times. Take what you need you’ll regret it if you don’t x

Good morning! My clinic advised to book 2 days off for egg collection. Luckily enough it landed on a Thursday so also had the weekend to recover. But for the transfer I went straight back to work after as I have an office job. Good luck with your journey xx

My collection was on a Saturday so I didn’t take any time off work and just went back in on Monday. After transfer I went straight back to work as well. My clinic advised this though and my work had no idea I was having treatment. My cycle worked so this was obviously the right thing for me, but every needs to do what they feel comfortable with x

I got my egg collection done on Monday this week and still feeling some abdominal pains!! It would be wise to take at least 2 days after off... although pain killers work just fine!! And the headache is worst, they say it is normal as the hormones leave your body

I would take two days off after ec if you can. The actual collection was painless for me and the next day I was fine with a heat pack. The second day after ec I was in quite a lot of pain, I think I overdid it a bit too soon. Good luck! x

That's what I took which was fine although my work was a lot more sympathetic and I didnt have to take holidays as it was technically a hospital admission. Oh and I also felt I wanted to be at work as waiting on those update phone calls is excrutiating! Good luck!xx

I took a few days off work because I didn't want to get the phone calls at work! But generally I was feeling fine the next day. I think at least take the rest of the day off. You can self certify yourself for a week's of sick leave. Is that not an option?? Best of luck xx

I took the day of egg collection and the day after as I felt quite drowsy after egg collection because of the sedation and had some abdominal pains. I think you have to do what is best for you and you can call in sick as technically you are. May be worth speaking to ACAS to get some guidance on this as your employer has to be careful as it is a potentially sex discrimination issue if they are making life difficult for you. My employer has been amazing so I have been lucky but I am aware that's not the case for everyone. Wishing you lots of luck xx

Agree with the above ladies. I don't think you should have to use annual leave for EC as it's a medical procedure either with sedation or general anaesthesia. I didn't tell my HR exactly why I was off just said a needed a couple days of planned sick leave for a gynaecology procedure.

The clinic I am with (NHS) signs all ladies off for two weeks the day of egg collection. I didn’t feel I needed the full two weeks and thought it was a bit much but after reading so many people’s posts with employers who show little support it makes sense. The phone calls regarding embryo development, embryo transfer day and subsequent appointments all carry less stress and juggling of work. There is no legislation as such but there is ‘best practice guidance’ out there - luckily my employer adhered to it especially about Being treated as ‘pregnant until proven otherwise’ in the two week wait. As such heavy duties, etc were reduced xx
