First Trimester exercise paranoia.....

Hey Guys,

I am very early days after a BFP and wanted to ask opinions...

I have been going to the gym daily pre the positive test, and generally a really active person.

Since my BFP I have stopped the gym and taking it very very easy....

I have 2 friends that are pregnant - they didn't have any trouble trying to conceive and they are hammering it with cardio in the gym and generally just not changing anything about their behaviour. I saw one dragging a monster suitcase a few days ago down the street....

Am I mad? My fertility nutritionist said she doesn't recommend exercise apart from very gentle forms until after 13 weeks....

What do other people think?

Maybe just 'normal' pregnant women can just do what they like?

Hi I’m a normal pregnant woman lol and was exercising as usual and I miscarried at 12 weeks I’ve managed to conceive again 6 months later and I’ve not done any exercise other that just walking since bfp. I’m in two minds to start the gym again or do yoga or swimming instead. I think I’m going to wait til after my 12w scan just to make sure everything’s ok.

haha sorry for using the word 'normal', I know we are all normal :)

Ok that message makes me feel better.....

I am the same, hoping of course that we get that far - I think gentle swimming and pre-natal yoga/pilates I would feel ok with...

Just so bonkers to see these girls not worried at all.....

Suppose everyone is different and can decide for themselves.

I think if you’ve been through any fertility procedures mc or just took a long time to get pregnant you are so much more wary about anything that could affect your pregnancy. Do what you think is best for you.

How many weeks are you are getting any early scans? I’ve 4 weeks til 12w I’m excited but scared for the scan as my last scan there was no baby I’d be devastated if it happened again.

I have an 8 week scan next Thursday so I am really early days too....

I just don't feel like I could live with myself if I overdid it and then something happened...

Best of luck with your 12 week scan! Hope this 4 weeks goes quick!

Your welcome xx

Hey. I’m 12 weeks tomorrow and used to train a lot before getting pregnant. I looked at Tommy’s website and generally if you are used to exercise then you can exercise during pregnancy- even first trimester. After 16 weeks- if you do any weight training, that needs to be adjusted. When I went for my booking appointment at 10weeks with the midwife she said if i exercised before, i could go back to the gym. Saying that, i didn’t go back until about 10weeks- I went once about 8weeks and just did 15 mins on the cross trainer and 10mins on the bike. I have a personal trainer and so far for the last couple of weeks, we have done gentle cardio- I don’t get hugely out of breath and some weights and core exercise. I had a scan last week and baby seems fine but official scan in 4 days!

It’s very much a personal choice- i would listen to your body. Right now I would not be able to “hammer away a cardio session” because I get tired so easily but the sessions have helped me feel stronger. Xxx

Yes - I agree, even if I wanted to do what I used to, my body wouldn't let me.

I will see how I get on with my initial scan at 8 weeks - but for now walking is good for me.

Honestly it is not even the physical side of it - mentally exercising has been a lifesaver as I am not working at the moment - so finding it hard.

Best of luck for your 12 weeks scan in 4 days! Exciting! Have you already told family and friends or will this be when you share your news?

I know exactly what you mean- I did a lot of walks in the early part too. Not told anyone except my trainer and acupuncturist! So will be exciting to finally tell people- I know a few people will have guessed because they knew we were having a transfer. Xx

awww it is an exciting time - glad you are nearly at 12 weeks and of course you had your recent scan so takes the pressure off slightly :)
