Small victories - Prolactin back to normal - Google is my friend!!

Well ladies you'll know from my previous rants that Ive been having trouble with prolactin and just wanted to post an update in case this helps anyone else. After getting a first result of 1311 and my thyroid being a little raised at 4.69 my clinic recommended I was put on levothyroxine 50mcg. After much reading and googling I figured they were both connected. 4 weeks later my thyroid had come down nicely to 2.72 (still a little high) and my prolactin to 628 (also still too high). 4 weeks later again my thyroid down to 2.51 and prolactin up a bit to 697 so started to panic there may be something else going on. Again as Im a major obsessive googler I discovered that there was a chance that if I had my blood taken later in the day that I might have a chance of a normal result - prolactin rises as we sleep and comes down as we waken and best time is around 3 hours after waking. Discussed with GP and he agreed it may help slightly....latest result 250....woo hoo Im normal! Dont know why the surgery didnt suggest this in the first place instead of just repeating! Sometimes, just sometimes google is your friend!! Still working on getting my TSH under 2 but small victories indeed ladies!xx

Thank you! Sometimes we just need to get as much info as possible when we are stuck in a rut! My TSH levels need to be under 2 to start treatment and the lab cocked up my last result so should hopefully hear what its sitting at today or tomorrow and if need be get my levothyroxine increased.....fingers crossed! Hope you're doing ok, you must still be on a high from your wonderful scan!xx

in reply to Cinderella5

Absolutely and you obviously did a good job! Let us know what your TSH reading is - I really hope it's low enough so you can start your treatment asap.

We're very happy thank you though I'm still in a bit of shock I think! I'm sure it'll sink in soon enough! Xx

I thought that I might get it today and it's not back so fingers crossed for tomorrow. Not sure if they have made a mess of it again as I know it doesn't take this long from my own work.🤞 Will update tomorrow.

Yes, I can't imagine how you are feeling....one day!! Keep us updated!!🤞🤞💕xx

in reply to Cinderella5

Keeping everything crossed for a good result xx

fantastic!!! It’s mad we have to do so much detective work ourselves! You’d think the experts would spot these things xxx

in reply to Cinderella5

Exactly lol. Thanks for sharing because i’m worried about mine. I’ll make sure I have an early morning blood test next time xxx

No not early morning. You want one around 3 hours after waking....all of my others were first thing and that's why they were high...although the first one I do thing was due due to slight hypothyroidism.xx

Congratulations 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I’m surprised it dropped that much though just a few hours later in the day.

How long between the last two blood tests? Could it have been that it dropped further naturally?

Also with thyroid- it’s best to test on empty stomach first thing in morning (leaving 24 hours between your last dose) and take your thyroxine after your blood test.

Tsh is also highest in morning but you really want to know what your highest reading is rather than a false low.

A couple hours after waking should be fine if fasting x

Its only 4 weeks from each result.....I called today and GP didnt have my TSH back (computer balls up) so called the hospital myself and got the result....1.58! Whoop whoop. Not sure if the huge drop in my TSH has helped my prolactin as they are connected. However prolactin can rise and fall very quickly as I remember in my first NHS cycle my first one was 623 and two weeks later was 123.xx

Oh great news! I would say that big a drop in tsh would most likely have brought prolactin down too. But it’s definitely worth delaying it as you have done.

If it was 4weeks in between blood tests (8weeksntotal) it may just have taken that long for tsh to come down. It can take a while 4-6 weeks generally. Either way I’m glad it’s sorted.

Word of warning my tsh always rises during ivf treatment so I would make sure you check it again during meds and adjust dose accordingly. (Tsh can sometimes be artificially elevated but free t4- the actual hormone in the body needs to be at top end of range for baby/pregnancy/fertility. Def need both tsh and free t4 tested together.

Good luck! And enjoy sunny Athens

It was 12 weeks in total so been a bit of a wait but I've gotten there. Won't be away too soon yet and have a. Lovely holiday planned next week to relax! Thanks for advice, I did read That if we are successful to have it checked!!xx

in reply to Cinderella5

Great news. Enjoy your holiday xx

Thank you! Well I'm hoping that's right. The fact I can't see it in black and white I making me think it's not right.....scared to believe!😂🙈xx

Brill- enjoy your holiday!

Yes you need to up your dose almost immediately once pregnant

But I found even during ivf treatment with all the hormones that my tsh rose again. By transfer it was 3.86 😣 so might be worth checking it once u start ivf meds again x
