2ww and work?

Hi, just wondered what changes all you lovely ladies do during the 2ww? I work shifts and when a lady is pregnant they get given restricted duties. But I would like to continue working during the 2ww to pass the time. But it can be quite a physical job and I wouldn’t do it if it would jeopardise my outcome! Any advice? Thanks in advance. Xx

Hi! What do you work as ? I also work shifts and pregnant women in work are on restricted duties. It may be best to be on restricted during 2ww as don’t want anything to have an impact negatively. Is your work aware of your treatment ? X

Hi, I’m a paramedic. They do know and I could work in head quarters but if it was safe to I’d stay in my role. X

I would keep yourself right and make yourself a priority during the process. I’m sure there is an element of risk but I get what you are saying about keeping yourself busy. Did you continue with your shifts etc during your treatment? If your work can accommodate you during the wait I’d go with it. Wishing you all the best x

Yes I have continued with my shifts so far and it’s made the process go so much quicker! Thank you for your advice. X

I think ur protected by the pregnancy guidelines (if ur work know) for the 2ww and then IF you have a negative result u r still protected for a further 2 weeks after, obviously if it's positive u r protected by the pregnancy guidelines for the duration. So basically u should b put on light duties. This is wot my work did for me, I work in a special educational needs school so it's quite hands on and u do feel like a spare part sometimes, but u need to think of yourself.

Hope this helps and good luck xx

Hi JoJo, thanks for your reply. I didn’t realise there was protection for 2 weeks after as well. They will put me on light duties I would just prefer to have stayed on shift if I wasn’t at risk. But sounds like it’s best not to do that. Thanks xx

Hiya lovely .... i told my manager after my egg transfer on my 2ww .... the clinic automatically give me a sicknote but i brought it up before they offered .... i went back to work and was automatically put on light duties ... after your transfer you are protected for 2 weeks if you find out its a bfp you will carry on your maternity rights ... i have recently lost my bfp due to chemical pregnancy and im still covered for 2 weeks ... try and stay rested i can imagine been a paramedic quite stressfull at times im a seniour care assistant and found light duties there quite strenuous..... wishing you lots of luck with your future treatment ❤️ xxx

Thank you for your reply. I’m so sorry to hear your sad news. My work aren’t very supportive but will allow alternate duties as I would be covered under the maternity policy at that stage. I was trying to avoid them if it wasn’t necessary at the stage of the 2ww. Take care. Xx

Hi Gemmy999, my last cycle 4 years ago I was in a similar role and I stayed operational because it helped to keep my mind busy. I also hadn’t told Work. I took the odd day as annual leave during the 2ww and other than that just carried on as normal. Risky probably but ended up in healthy baby boy. Wishing you lots of luck xx

Thank you for your reply. And congratulations on your baby boy. It’s good to hear what other people decided to do with work. Although my work know they don’t care so they wouldn’t know I was meant to be on light duties! Thanks again xx

Hi gemmy999. For my last 2ww I took annual leave, we went away on holiday, planned lovely things for every day and relaxed as much as possible and I got a BFN! I’m in my 2WW now and am carrying on as normal with my job as a paediatric nurse. I think now if it’s meant to be it will. Lots of love and Good Luck! xxx

Hi, I can see why you’ve changed to carrying on as normal this time. It is Mother Nature at this point. It’s my second cycle and I took time off for the first as well and got BFN which is why I was also thinking at continuing on. Also to keep busy. I’ve only got 4 shifts in the first week of the 2ww and then 7 days off. Good luck to you. Xx

I took two days off work only after transfer to avoid stress but my job is mostly office with visits to people and some walkabouts so not very high risk. I found it nice to have something else to think about but it’s always in the back of your mind. Good luck xx

Personally I think it depends on how you feel. Don’t lift anything heavy and if anything is likely to cause you stress cut it out in the two week wait x

Thank you for the advice. I’m a bit torn between what to do now. I’ll see what the clinic says tomo x
