Antihistamines whiles pregnant

Hi all,

I’ve suffered badly with gnat bites during his hot weather and a couple are very painful and swollen. Is it safe to take pyriton to ease them whilst pregnant. I’m 9 weeks tomorrow?

Xx

I had the worst hay fever and literally my eyes were swollen the dr said it’s not ethical to test on pregnant women :( there may be a cream you could use but speak to ur GP xx

yes hun but only certain ones are safe, probably best to go to your GP and have your BP tested first etc and then they can prescribe the safer ones, or call your clinic and get a recommendation for an over the counter one xxx

how exciting! its great, we had our 9 week NHS scan already and all is well, got our gender scan at just over 22wks, I really don't know if we want to know the gender but I don't think I can help myself! just feels like its finally real now. Has your sickness started or subsided yet? I'm so glad that part is over! xxx

Enjoy it hun, its such a magical time and you will remember this process for the rest of your life and remember how lucky you were to get where you are, sickness and all. I don't think the nausea ever really leaves you to be honest! the sickness has gone but certain smells make me feel really queasy still haha. good luck with your appointment! xxxx

Ask your doctor for cyclizine, i’m on it for nausea but it’s actually an antihistamine. They regularly give it to pregnant women, it’s not fully tested as they won’t do double blind studies on pregnant women but is commonly used. I got told just to use it as and when needed and ween off it as soon as possible but they may let you have some 😊

Thank you I will ask the midwife today xx

Antihistamines are used in pregnancy-piriton and cetirizine . If you go to medicinesinpregnancy.org (bumps website) it has information leaflets about a lot of medications and then you can make your mind up. Xx
