Medicated Vs Natural FET

Hi ladies,

Wondering if I could pick your brains about frozen transfers...

If you’ve read my previous posts, you’ll see I had a Chemical pregnancy with our fresh transfer. After seeing the consultant (finally) last week he really reassured me about my chances of concieveing again. It was long over due to be told it wasn’t my fault that the pregnancy didn’t continue. Can’t tell you how happy that made me, and a weight lifted and now I can / have moved past it and ready for the next step.

We are first going on holiday, then, I’d like to continue with a FET in June hopefully.

I wanted to ask about your experiences of natural vs medicated cycles for FET. Is there a difference in success? We have 2 frozen embryos and I don’t want to waste them! At the moment I’m opting for natural cycle as my cycle is pretty regular 28/29 days and I do ovulate every month.

What did you ladies do? Any tips?

Back on the healthy eating, exercise and no drinking now. Actually gained almost a stone though the last treatment 😬

Thanks in advance xx

Thank you, you are very sweet xx

I don’t have any advice for you as this is exactly the same position we’re in at the minute too!!

If you find any answers I’d love to hear them too!!

Hope you enjoy your holiday and wishing you luck for your fet xxx

Thank you love! It’s a tricky decision but I guess we don’t really have much control over the result what ever way! X

Reply

It is tricky!! We just got told that if I ovulate myself I can do a natural transfer but if I don’t it will have to be medicated!! We have no control at all, once it’s in there we just have to trust our bodies to look after that tiny embryo!!

Have you had to wait two cycles before you can start again!! Xxx

Reply

Yep! It will be 2 when we get back from holiday. That was our choice though but think that is normal. They just said to call when ready to do the cycle! It’s allquite laid back really compared to the fresh cycle!

Reply

Yeah think it is!! They’ve just told me to call on the first day of my second period, so guessing we will start again in June with the fet!!

We only have one frozen embryo so hoping we get good news this time xxx

Hi I had a chemical pregnancy in March and I’ve opted for a medicated fet just because my periods are irregular good luck with your fet journey xx

Oh I’m so sorry to hear that. I think it must have been around the same time as mine and at the same point in the pregnancy looking through your posts. Hope your FET goes really well for you. Xx

Sorry to hear about your chemical pregnancy 💜 I had my endo scratch yest are you having one/had one xx

Reply

Thank you love. No I’m not having the scratch again. I asked about it and the doctor said “it is as effective as a polo mint!” I took part in the research study where 1000’s of women around the country are having the scratch on the NHS. He has been reviewing the data and it shows it doesn’t change anything. Guess it will be published soon. I don’t think it harms the chances but it’s painful and not needed. Will try anything though, we all will! X

Hi I’ve recently had 3 consecutive chemical pregnancies but currently 7+ weeks following natural cycle fet. Medicated cycles produce poor womb lining for me and I got pregnant twice via natural, seems to work much better with my system and nice not having to keep popping oestrogen pills xxx

Reply

Oh wow I’m aorry to hear that but pleased you have made it to 7 weeks with this one! Did you have any tests carried out because of the 3 chemicals? Wishing you well! X

I’m terrified to be honest but trying to stay calm. I had untreated blood clotting issues which could have caused them but who really knows? Could be chromosomal, anything! They did tell me it’s a good sign but obviously doesn’t feel like that xxx

Oh gosh I’m sure you are so nervous! I would be too. I hope all works out for you this time xx

Hi littleblue, I’m glad you’re starting to feel better. I did a medicated FET but without down-regulation, just oestrogen tablets from day one of my cycle which stopped me from growing any follicles and gave me a nice thick lining then progesterone pessaries from five days prior to transfer. My embryo was transferred on the day I would have ovulated on a normal cycle which has made dating my pregnancy nice and straightforward. Being “semi medicated” meant that there was control over when transfer would take place which was important as I need sedation for transfer and it also meant my preferred dr did the transfer. I think I would have found it more stressful to have to monitor ovulation and try to do it that way, but I was very glad not to have to down regulate.

Hey Lizzielizzielizzie, hows everything going with you?! Good I hope 🤞🏻 thanks for the advice, I was offered the semi medicated too. I don’t know why but I want to try without all the pills, and if it doesn't work, maybe will try a medicated cycle after that. We have 2 Frosties and hope they both survive otherwise it’s onto a fresh and paid for cycle for us! X

After my mmc in Jan from a fresh transfer they gave me the option of either for my FET. I opted for medicated as I wanted to be "told" what to do & not to rely on the chance of my body not doing what it should! (Which was doubtful as I ovulate every month!) But I prefer structure & wanted it all taken out of my hands. Also the medicated meant i could start straight away, where as the natural one would have been a good month behind. The only downside was having to pay for the medication, where as a natural would have been loads cheaper. However Im now 8 weeks pregnant with twins! Good luck with what ever you decide. Xx

Oh I’m so pleased to read of your happy news ☺️☺️ Have been in 2 minds about this next step. Seems so much more relaxed, I like it! But I think I will try the natural fet first. Hope all goes well for you 3 😉xx

Hey there!

I’m just connecting back after few months away from any FIV topics and I saw you were due to start a FET in June. Me too, that’s my second.

My doctor thinks frozen cycles are more successful because your body is not traumatised anymore from EC. They are even doing studies to prove this. So, that’s a good sign I think.

Have a good break and let’s keep in touch in June!

I some how missed your post, sorry for the late reply! How’s it going? I have a scan next week to start the ball rolling with this FET x

Hey! I just started the shots yesterday, I’m on a long cycle...

Hi we’re in the same shoes! I had a chemical from IVF2 last April. Will now be doing FET 1 this June. My doctor didnt let me choose though. He put me on natural straight away, maybe because I have regular cycles. Im also on Aspirin and Hydroxychloroquine because I have protein S deficiency (blood clotting problem). Im not sure why im on hydroxychloroquine though, i heard it’s for the immune system. Maybe my doctor just wants to make sure all possible problem is addressed. Looking forward to hearing updates on your cycle!

Hi! Im now 9 days post 5 day frozen transfer of 1 single PGS normal embryo. Will have my OTD on june 19. I figured i wasnt on completely natural cycle, it was semi medicated. I did not take any hormones pretransfer (just the aspirin & hydroxychloroquine for immune) just the trigger shot for ovulation. Then post transfer i was given progesterone tabs and crinone vag gel, estrade, dexamethasone, viagra vag tab. I also had 3 hcg injections every 3 days post transfer. This is for luteal phase support which will aid implantataion. It will boost progesterone production. Anyway we’ll see if this cycle will work in a few days.. im not POAS because im scared of false positives from the last hcg shot :) but definitely a frozen cycle is a lot easier to the body :)

Hey!

I am starting a FET in July/August. They didn't give me an option - said I have to do medicated.....

We are unexplained so maybe that is why....

Can't offer any advice as this is my first frozen! Eeek

Best of Luck!
