Back on the rollercoaster - does it ever end.

Spoke to the clinic in Spain last night (was exhausted at the time, damn time difference!) We're all set to come back in July for egg donation. Decided on a clinic in Barcelona.

Kind of have my head sorted with egg donor but can't believe the chances are so good (only 5% on our last rounds with my eggs). They seem to offer quite a bit of choice with the donor which seems good (and weird). How do you pick the personality!

Anyway, the clinic said that my husband has to have karyotyping done. I just wondered whether people had found this routine at European clinics. There does seem to be a lot of extra costs but then I'm sure all clinics are the same. The blood test for it here in NZ is $500. Also really wish I hadn't thrown out all my oestrogen and progesterone a year ago in a mad fit of escaping anything IVF.

Yes, all you can do is hope - every single time.

We've had nearly a year off and can't quite believe its been that long considering its something I think about every day.

My clinic said that karotyping was preferable..... we're doing DE in Athens. Thankfully we had this done via the NHS as my husband had a very low sperm count...they were trying to rule out cystic fibrosis etc. I haven't found too many costs as extra to be fair but yes the drugs we're an extra. Oh and yes the success rates are sooooo much better although still no guarantees of course!xx

Yeah, with such good odds I don't even want to consider if it doesn't work. Hope your next trip to Athens goes well. x

Oh I know it’s always hanging over us ☹️it’s nice you have had some time to try and “ escape “ from it a bit.

I’m ok thank you ; I had my second laparoscopy last month and endometriosis was treated but unfortunately some was left on my bowel. I’ve now seen an endometriosis specialist he has referred me to have another laparoscopy no 3! But it’s a 5/7 month waiting list 😱so we are trying again ;they have agreed I could have the surgery after having baby , nothing to lose! 😏 xoxo

At least you have seen the specialist now so you can be assured you are doing the right thing. Everything crossed that it works naturally for you. x

Oh it’s so hard to choose an egg donor and you’re right it feels weird at first but then, for me anyway, it just sort of clicked and now I can’t wait!

I chose my donor based on skin tone and height and job, how much information do they give you? But my advice would be to not worry too much about getting the perfect donor just go for it.

We can't get too much information as in Spain it has to be anonymous. I was surprised though when we said we could state our preferences for personality, education etc. They choose for you so we just have to trust them.

I'm not too worried. I'll be ecstatic if I end up with a baby after all this. x

We didn't get to choose our donor. They are all so different (the clinics).

Hope it goes really well and who knows - we may end up in Barcelona at the same time. It is a beautiful city. Xx

Yep, we obviously did pick just cos of the city but it did sway us!

We won't choose our donor but can give them quite a few preferences.

That moment our donor produced 15 eggs I nearly fell off my seat! The chances really were much better than my three poor quality ones!

Choosing a donor is hard; I sort of wished that we hadn’t hadn’t had a choice some times because I got so hung up on things that didn’t matter... there’s a box on our form which is about university education and career. I found myself picking the University education they had graduated from over the shop assistants and beauticians. What judgemental cow I am! But I realised it was because (working in a uni) I want my children to go to uni... and that (and their personality) isn’t determined by a donor. Its determined by us. Good luck! x
