Desperate question - Diane do you know?

Hello,

We got our day 5 update today after being told on day 3 that all of my 6 embryos were looking poor. Today 3 have made it to blast - 2 are expanded and one is early blast. They are grade 3 and my clinic (not sure if this is universal) grade from 1 to 4. They will only freeze grade 1 and 2 so these embryos are going to be discarded. I asked them will they just transfer them today in case and they have said no. WTF????Are they allowed to do that? They are only 1 grade below freezable. I have rung the HFEA but the girl I got on the phone is going to ring me back.

Its meant to be a freeze all round so I havent been on cyclogest since egg collection, which was Friday. My progesterone levels are normally ok but would it even be feasible to transfer?

Feeling in a right state that my embryos are just going to die xxx

Hi Orla, I don't know about most of what you've asked but my nurse told me that they expect your progesterone to be low before transfer. The cyclogest would start once transferred so I think it would come down to your lining being ok. I've you've not had issues with that in the past then I think it would be fine. I can't believe they said no! Surely you should be able to do what you want with them. I hope you get some answers x

Hi Orla9298. Just read this. At home on my little iPad. Would they let them grow to Day 6 to see if the early blast improves? I assume they will transfer two of the other blastocysts fresh. I can’t believe all is lost. The embryologist must be pretty sure that the others won’t survive the freeze thaw process, hence the bad news. Don’t know what else to say, so I really hope a transfer goes ahead. Thinking of you. Diane

Thank you Diane! They were refusing to transfer any of the 3 blasts. My husband rang and was very firm that surely we should be able to choose and now they are saying the consultant will ring me so I’m waiting to hear from him. The embryologist said I probably won’t be able to transfer as I haven’t been on progesterone, so we might have to attempt a freeze but I’m going to push to transfer if I can. Will I have too low progesterone if we transfer tomorrow at day 6 after collection, if I haven’t been on cyclogest? Would injectable help?x

Hi. Either injections or pessaries would help, and you carry on after transfer anyway. Oh I’m keeping everything crossed for you. Diane

Oh Orla that is a horrible stressful situation and I can’t believe you are in it. Surely they will transfer if at all possible sending you lots of love and best wishes I so hope they can give them a chance my thoughts are with you xxx

Consultant thinks it would be too many negatives to transfer them tomorrow since it will be day 6 and I haven’t been on progesterone. But he has agreed to freeze them all for me as long as they look ok (well not worse!) in the morning. Which is all I had wanted in the first place so I guess all is ok!

Panic over. It was a very cold way of doing things for the embryologist to just say they will not freeze them, point blank, but I assume that’s their normal policy and maybe she has no authority to bend that rule herself.

How awful! I’m glad to see you stood ur ground in other post and took them on.

Can I ask why it was a freeze all transfer to begin with?

Surely even if that was the aim they could have prepped u for a fresh transfer anyway- it’s just pessaries for a few days...

I’m glad this ended well but how horrible for u x

Because we are doing 3 banking rounds so the intention is you can back to back them if you don’t have meds. The first round was fine and we had one good one out of 3 embryos, just was gutted at the thought of having 1 cycle and 6 embryos with nothing to show for it! I found it very hard to stomach! The next one is the last round so we have already agreed that we will do progesterone in case we end up in same boat!x

Oh wow I’d never heard of that@back to back!

Well good luck! And yes for final round it does make sense to do meds if ur happy to conceive soon x
