Tips on a comfortable full bladder for transfer please!

Hi guys!

I’m just awaiting the call on the process of my eggs and my transfer date, my last transfer was awful as I ended up having too water and too much of a full bladder and was bursting to pee I though I was going to wee on the surgery table 😂😭I couldn’t think of anything else it was so uncomfortable that it ruined the experience for me, as soon as they transferred it it I ran straight to the bathroom.

So do you guys have any tips on how I can get a comfortable full bladder at all please?

Many thanks xx

I’d be interested if there were any tips! 😂 Always been absolutely fit to burst and desperate for the loo straight after (which is fine btw) xx

It’s not the best feeling is it!!

We had a 2 hour drive to the hospital and I was sipping water all the way!! We arrived very early and I was then busting for the loo!!! I had to go as I would no way of lasted!! We then had to wait nearly 40 minutes so I just started sipping water again and all was ok!! My bladder was full enough and it was only uncomfortable when the nurse was pressing down with the scanner!!!

Good luck and hope all goes ok xxx

I always get to the hospital in plenty of time so I can immediately pee and then start sipping. One of my transfers was performed on a totally empty bladder because my uterus was tilted and my Consultant asked me to empty it. If the person performing the transfer is an expert it doesn’t need to be at bursting point at all xxx

Nope. I literally had to go for a wee three before they did my transfer, obviously I didn't empty my bladder. But I had drank soooo much, I was in pain. I still had a really full bladder and was uncomfortable! Lol. Maybe don't drink as much and just drink before you go in for the transfer xx

Hmmmm, tough one. I had drank so much water and absolutely needed to relieve myself when I got to the clinic, 50 mins before transfer. So I did that and just steadily drank about 500ml whilst I was waiting. It was full but probably not as bad as if I'd held it for longer. I don't think it takes much to fill your bladder so perhaps just pee normally until about 45 - 60 mins before tansfer and then drink steadily...Good luck xx

I did the same drank too much so had to go when got to the hospital. I had a litre bottle of water with me and drank most of that after my bladder was full but not super full but was full enough for the procedure the dr said when they take a look if it’s not full enough they will just send me back to my bed to drink a bit more so it was noting to worry about xx

Our clinic is about an hours drive so I always go before I leave Home and then drink on the way. I’m with the others there aren’t any tips but you can go to the toilet straight after ET - my clinic re assured me it wouldn’t fall out 😂 xx

I had a “mini-wee” half an hour before. Try it before the actual day and see if you are one of the women who is able to empty just a little wee out of your bladder and then stop- my clinic said not everyone is able to do this!

Omg I'd love to know too. I had to ask the nurse if I could go before the transfer as I was in too much pain I was so full 🤢. Think next time I'll only drink water when I get to the clinic & not the whole journey there! Xx

I just had a transfer on Friday. There was a delay for my appointment so I HAD to go not long before. I only then managed to drink a small amount before transfer and mine was full enough but still comfortable. I’d go with others and say it doesn’t need to be fit to burst at all and they said too, if it’s not full enough they will wait a bit for me to drink some more and go again. All the best xx

I usually go 1.5-2 hrs before transfer then start sipping water. My first transfer they were running an hr late and they told me I could go and let a little out if I wanted but I didn’t trust my body to be able to do so so I held on. It was awful. They jokingly told me in theatre that I had the bladder of the day but then afterwards the nurse pulled me aside and told me it didn’t need to be so full.
