Estimated egg collection day 16 of stims! Will they be too big?

Hi all,

This is our first ever cycle and we are having ICSI. We are having Embryos tested with PGS so we can only have egg collections from wednesdays to Saturday because of this.

I had my day 9 scan of stims yesterday and they said I had 10 follicles growing nicely at approximately 14mm. I know they need to be 18-20mm. They have said my egg collection will more than likely be Wednesday or Thursday next week that means I’ll be in day 16 of stims and I’m worried they will end up being too big... I have another scan tomorrow morning but I’m just wondered if anyone else has had this experience or done the full 16 days of injections that could offer advice xx

Ok your not on the highest dose possible so that seems ok to me. If you was on 450 I would be a little concerned...they will continue to grow obviously but not at a super fast rate. If they are concerned they will do your bloods to ensure your not overstimulating. See what comes of tomorrow but tbh I think all is good. I have known people to go on for 19 days...everyone is different...Stay positive & good luck. Xxx

Hi thank you for your advice yesterday, Folicles are still growing nicley but just had a phone call to say my blood test or Eastr.. is rising well also (i think better than they expected) so i have to lower my dose of menopur from 225 to 150 for this evening and then attend the clinic tomorrow at 8:15 for another scan and blood test.

That makes total sense to me..shouldn't be too long now before egg collection. Did they say when....? It's all about knowing when you accelerate and when to press the brakes a little. Gladbyoday went well for you xx

Yes does make sense now, and they are saying Wednesday as that’s the earliest it can be becuse of the PGS XX

I had my egg collection after 16 days of stimulation. I was borderline for hyperstimulation but I was well and we ended up with 7 embryos. Speaking to the team- they said it was not unusual to have 16days. I’m sure your team is trying to get as many mature follicles as possible. I was a bit worried too at the time but it was all fine. Hi Jade-I was day 19 so everyone’s different. They reduced my dose the last 2 or 3 days so you might find they do this with you as well if they’re worried about them getting too big. Good luck.

Hi jade,

If they’re worried about you going over, they can either “coast” you (no stims) or reduce your dose. Also, you’ll probably do your trigger shot 36 hours before, eg Monday night for Wednesday morning so you might find it’s only 14 days stims.

Is there are particular reason you’re having pgs? Since you’re having them all frozen anyway, once egg collection is done, you get to be drug free and your body will be able to recover from the stims drugs before you start the drugs for your fet.

My reason for PGS is a mixture of different AMH results ranging from 5 to 11 over last few months and husbands sperm count once being extremely low. We've been trying for 3 years now and no other indicators of why it hasn't happened so i think they are just trying to cover every possibility.

I started 450 menopur for the first 2 days (split into 2 doses of 225 morning and night) then 300 daily on a Tuesday - egg collection was the second Tuesday after that. think only three of mine got to the ideal size
