Private or nhs ivf

Im 33 & We had our first fertility clinic appointment 2 months back and now waiting for second appointment in April after few blood tests and hsg. We are worried about waiting time and wanted to check how long it takes to our first ivf cycle. It is stressing and worrying as we are not able to see any results. Should we think of private or are we closer to the ivf cycle in nhs?

Hi kriswa, I finished my 1 and only IVF cycle on the NHS the 4/3/18 (that when my embryos got transferred) I got the go ahead for IVF in November so took roughly 4 1/2 months! I’m Pretty sure it all has to be competed within 6 months. I’m in Swindon so I’m not sure how it works in different areas.

So I take it as an advice to wait patiently for few more months? What would be the next step from your experience?

I personally would! I’m the most impatient person and I was expecting it to be a lot longer than what I experienced! Obviously look into private if all doesn’t go according to plan once you have tried the NHS (I hope it all works out for you) do you know how many cycles you are entitled to on the NHS?

I'm told 1 free cycle. Feels like it is most stressing time of life.

I got exactly the same and yes that worried me a lot along with the fact I had no embryos left over to be able to freeze so I would have to start all over again, but try not to let stress you out, I know it is easier said than done but all is takes sometimes is 1 round! Out of the whole process I found the 2 week wait after the embryo transfer the hardest to cope with but it’s all worth it in the end ❤️

Your gp should be able to tell you which fertility clinic you will be referred to for NHS treatment - you can then call the clinic to ask what their waiting times are. My clinic thankfully only had a 2 week waiting list

Do you know what would be next step after the initial blood test and hsg?

I know I was so grateful it was short - you hear places that have years!

Kriswa I had a dye test done to check my tubes were all clear at my hospital before being referred to our ivf clinic.

I think it depends where you are. I got referred in March 2013 and started my injections in the October.
