Fallopian tube removal

Omg 2 weeks today and 1 if not 2 tubes will be gone! The anxiety is driving me crazy but in the other hand another step towards having a baby. My question is: do having your tubes removed affect your periods and does it hinder egg quality or being able to produce eggs? All comments welcome x

Hi destiny21. Having your tubes removed does not affect your periods, nor ovulation and egg quality. You have a natural lubrication in your Fallopian tubes and if they are blocked, any excess can only leak into your womb. It is widely believed that this fluid can prevent a developing embryo from implanting, hence removing them to give you the best chance of success with IVF or ICSI. Obviously you won’t be able to get pregnant naturally, but you will still ovulate each month. The egg that is expelled will just break down and get absorbed into your body, so won’t cause any problem. Hope all goes well with the op, and it’s leads to successful IVF. Thinking of you. Diane

Hi

I had this surgery done exactly two weeks today and no it doesn’t effect your periods or ovulation. I had one tube removed, there was a question over my other tube but luckily they looked at it during surgery and it was fine. I’ve been told that I “should” (in an ideal world) be able to conceive naturally as having one Fallopian tube doesn’t necessarily decrease your chances of conceiving to 50% as the other tube overcompensates for the other one that’s been removed and works harder. I’ve had a period since the surgery and everything was as it should be and we’ve just begun trying naturally again and if it doesn’t work out we’re going to go for IVF.

Good luck for your surgery, it’s not as bad as it seems just take it easy for the first few days after and you’ll be fine. Hope everything goes okay xxx

Thanks for your perspective. I’m waiting for a date for this procedure too and have started getting anxious but feel better now reading this.

Doesn’t affect anything like that. I only have one tube now which is blocked which was the only fertility issue and I was so lucky to get pregnant on the first try of ivf. Positive thoughts, drink lots of water, always eat lots of eggs and avocados and I also had Accupuncture. Good luck xx
