blood test result “inadequate”

my clinic insisted on me doing all my blood tests again for 3rd self funded round. fortunately my GP agreed to me having tests done at local hospital - saving us quite a bit.

however, first set off tests they missed vitamin d & hep a off, which i had done last week. when i called this morning for results the receptionist told me the results were “inadequate” and i’d need to repeat them.

dr google isn’t able to help - does anyone know what this means? i’m slightly panicked that my next round won’t go ahead.

Sorry I don’t have advice but just wondered if you could get a telephone appt with the GP to get some answers? It’s horrible when they tell you things but don’t expand on the information xx

thanks for replying sweets, but zero chance of appt at my surgery - would take weeks!

will go to local hospital tomorrow & have tests redone.

A lot of GP practices offer telephone appointments for discussion of results. Call the receptionist and ask to speak to a GP about the results. “Inadequate” is a bit vague- the results could mean anything from not having enough vit D or there not being enough blood in the tube! Hep A results are normally IgM and IgG (Positive for IgM means active or recon infection and positive for IgG means past exposure or vaccination).I understand that the receptionist can not explain as they are not medically trained. That’s very frustrating. Are you able to access your GP medical records via online access- most GPs have to offer this now and that way you could get the numbers or report from the hospital. Good luck.

thanks for replying 😘

someone from surgery just called to advise it was the hep result that was inadequate, but wasn’t able to advise why.

will go to local hospital in morning & get it re-done.

god, the palava, could do without the extra drama!!

I suspect they did not take enough blood. Ask for a telephone consult with your GP, you can request same day contact. Hospitals often have phlebotomy clinics so if you can’t get additional appointment sooner at GP, you can take your blood form to the hospital to be performed xx

thanks dolly - am going to the hospital in the morning!

my surgery are pretty impossible to deal with, but i am grateful they are doing them at all, otherwise i would have footing the bill!

There was one test that our gp surgery didn’t routinely do and nor do the giving blood people, it was something to do with hep b but I can’t remember what. So maybe they just need another test. X
