Hello, i started my Buserelin injections on Wednesday so have done 4 now but 3 of them have left bruises. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? Any advice would be much appreciated

Hi I've finished buserelin now but I did notice a couple of times I bruised. I didn't bruise with the last round but I was on gonal f and cetrotide and not buserelin. Some days I found the needle harder to get in this time round so I've put that down to why I've bruised a few times. I made sure I pinched my skin and put the needle in at an angle. Good luck with your cycle. Xxx

Thank you for your reply, my DH is doing the injections while I close my eyes as I’m a big wimp! Will check that he is putting it in at an angle. I’m just worried that if I bruise each time that I will run out of space to inject! We have been putting the injections in my tummy but contemplating trying in my thigh tonight. I see you are on your TWW, hope everything goes well for you xx

I had completely opposite experience, I got sore lumps if I didn’t put the needle in at 90 degrees exactly! Bruising happens because you hit a tiny capillary, it’s hard to predict whether this will or won’t happen. I used to look closely at my skin and go for a white part rather than a pinker part! That was my best guess and mostly seemed to work.

Oh and put an ice pack on it straight after you take the needle out as this will keep any bruising small. Xx

Hi,

I’ve bruised a few times with buserelin.

I find I bruise when I hit some sort of blood vessel. I find if I bleed it will turn into a bruise.

My bruises are rather large! So I asked about them at my last appointment and I was told it is normal, but to maybe avoid the area again as I seem to bruise on a certain patch of my stomach x

Hi, thank you for your reply, good to know that it’s normal, after I bruised the first time we moved to the completely different side of my tummy but now that’s bruised too. Going to try my thigh tonight and hope that’s better. Good luck with your treatment xx

Your welcome,

I hate needles but I do the injections myself, this seems to help as it bruises less when I do them. I found after a few days of experimenting I found an angle and way of doing them that doesn’t bruise.

Hope your cycle goes well for you too x

Hi there. Like the others I bruised too. Especially on my 1st round when I may have been a bit rougher with my injection technique. You might run out of space but I found sometimes injecting same area didn’t hurt. Sometimes it did- it was just random. Good luck and it’s perfectly normal!

I wrote this on another lovely ladies post today....

I don't know if you've noticed but if you have a close look at your needles they kind of have a slant on them where they come to a point. I found that if you angle the sharpest bit in first then twist as it goes in, I think it goes in easier....this was after having a bruises after stabbing myself at the start. Best of luck!xx

Hi everyone, just done another injection and took all your points on board and tonight it was the best one yet!! Thank you all for your support! Just a point that might help anyone else, tonight was the first time we did it sitting up (all other times I was lying down) and think this helps us pinch more and made it loads easier for the needle to go in and so I hardly felt it 😁 plus put the needle in at an angle. Again thank you everyone xx
