1 dominant follicle, may have to cancel cycle...looking for reassurance...

Hi Ladies,

Hope you are all doing well and coping with riding the IVF rollercoaster.

I had my day 8 scan today (day 8 of stimms). At first all seemed positive then the nurse told us that I have little to no activity on the right side (not a problem), but a few follicles developing on the left. HOWEVER, one of the follicles on the left is growing way faster than the others.

I've been booked in for an extra scan on Saturday so they can see if the smaller follicles, and/or the right side, is catching up. Worst case scenario is that they will have to cancel the cycle. To compound this I turn 40 on Feb 5th so we were trying to get the cycle through so I would qualify for the NHS round.

My OH is being positive and telling me not to worry, but I can't help but be upset and worried - I have tried to remain so positive throughout. Has anyone else had this issue and, if so, did it rectify? Really looking for some hope to get me back onto the positive track. TIA xxx

Hi. I only ever have follicles on my right side respond to stims. What they will look for is follicles over a certain size so just because one is developing faster than the others does not mean that they will not go ahead. But remember, it only takes one egg.

Wishing you all the best. Do let us know how you get on. I totally understand how stressful it can all be.

Xx

Thank you so much for your reply. The nurse did warn me they may have to cancel, and she said they won't do EC if there's only one egg. From the research I've done, I'm a chronic googler, it seems there are things that can be done before resorting to cancelling the cycle, so I'm wondering why the nurse didn't mention this xx

I had this problem, one side reacted quicker and a few follicles were maturing much faster than others. I took the cetrocide injection sooner than planned to slow things down little. At egg collection I ended up with 9 eggs collected which was great. Sadly my first round ended in a miscarriage but we are starting again next month and they are adjusting things slightly to avoid it happening again and hopefully get everything going at the same speed x it’s hard first time round we just don’t know how our bodies are going to react x

Thank you for replying, I'm so sorry to hear your last cycle ended in miscarriage. Is cetrocide the trigger shot? I think mine is called something beginning with an O. Was that to slow down the faster follicles? What happened about the slower ones? Little confused, I blame the hormones xx

No the triggger shot is the one beginning with O I still did this as normal before egg collection. The cetrocide was used earlier to try and slow down the ones that were growing faster so the others had time to catch up and I didn’t end losing them all. I am sure every clinic recommends something different in each case. For me though it worked and in my scan the next day things were looking much more equal. They are going to scan me and take bloods much sooner though for next round and monitor it as I stimulate so quickly. We are going again in March.

Thanks for the info - I will ask about Cetrocide if needs be! Best of luck with your round in March xx

Don’t worry hun this happened to me too but the others did eventually catch up. Now I look back and laugh at my ‘rogue’ follicle, just seemed funny to me. Sometimes I feel like when you’re going through the NHS they just treat you like you’re on some kind of IVF conveyor belt!

Thank you. I know what you mean about the conveyor belt too! :) x

Hi ladies - quick update! I had my scan today and everything is back on track! I was so relieved when they told me that I could have cried! The follicles were so well developed that, actually, my egg collection date has been brought forward to Monday (it was meant to be Wednesday). Eeeek! Just done my trigger shot and my last Buserelin and Menopur! Thanks so much again for your replies ladies, you helped me so much! Hope all your journeys are going well xx
