Going out for dinner?!

This might seem like a REALLY daft question so my apologies in advance, but i dont know what to do for the best...do any of you go out for dinner / food when going through IVF? I feel stupid even writing this but I have been trying to be really good with my diet, eating the recommended foods, organic when i can, no takeaways, not getting hair dyed, using less toiletry products and switching to less chemical cleaning products etc. But i feel like i have now made myself super anxious to go out for food or eat anything that i havent cooked myself because of what might be in it. Hubby has suggested going out for dinner at the weekend ans i want to but dont want to negatively affect IVF. I have lost about a stone since starting meds a month ago which wasnt my intention at all and im still eating plenty its just all healthy i guess. My GP thinks the weightloss is stress related and suggested i go out for food or wherever to enjoy myself and try & relax, she said it wont cause IVF to fail, she is the loveliest GP. But can i ask your guys thoughts please? I know many of u ladies have so much knowledge on the topic. Am i overreacting or should i just stick it out until IVF is over?! xx

I would say go out and enjoy the dinner! Sounds like your doing everything and more to make sure your in a good place for treatment and I think it’s everything in moderation, IVF soon takes over our lives but we need to enjoy the small things to that’s what keeps us going xx

I know exactly what you mean but you are doing all the right things so there’s no harm in have a well deserved treat every now and then. I found going out for dinner with my hubby made me feel a bit ‘normal’ whatever that is lol

There okay thanks, got a scan tomorrow to see if I ovulate then we can decide what FET I’m going to do xx

I suggest you go out and enjoy yourself! IVF is incredibly stressful and going out for a meal may just help you to relax. It is important for you to be relaxed and happy 😊

TTCs profile image
TTCs in reply to PennyDreadful

Thanks PennyDreadful! A slap up meal would make me happy :) salmon, eggs & avocado do not 😂 it's the simple things!!

Lizzielizzielizzie profile image
Lizzielizzielizzie in reply to TTCs

Ha ha, I would choose salmon eggs and avocado when I was out! Yummy! I’m too lazy to deal with avocado at home and not keen on the smell of cooking fish. Just had to comment as it made me laugh!

On a more serious note, you sound like you’ve done really well with clean living and I doubt one nice mean is going to make any difference to your ivf x

TTCs profile image
TTCs in reply to Lizzielizzielizzie

Haha i like eggs, can get on board with the avocado but the salmon still turns me lol! Still eating it mind! I get the smoked stuff as wouldn't be able to cope with cooking it. I know they say to avoid smoked too but it is that or nothing.

Thanks hun, everyone's comments are saying its ok so thats good 😘 xx

There are never silly questions on here and I’m sure you will have a lovely time! After all the biggest thing the doctors etc want you to do is to try and relax, good luck 💕 xx

TTCs in reply to Squeak2

Thanks Squeak2! I just wanted to make sure i wasnt doing anything that would jeopardise it but i sensed i was overreacting. Just needed it confirmed me to 😊 xx

I would go out and enjoy myself. IVF is stressful enough and a nice meal with hubby is a nice change.

I didn’t hardly change anything when I started IVF all I did was try and eat healthier and had decaf tea but other than that nothing else. I just told myself that there are tons of people out there that drink alcohol, take drugs and eat nothing but rubbish and still get pregnant xx

Thanks Hydromermaid-1! Thats so true; our clinic is right beside maternity ward and everytime we go there are heavily pregnant women smoking and it drives me mad!

I see from ur profile u are having a baby girl, amazing news! She must be due very soon? How r u feeling? Xx

in reply to TTCs

I just thought the whole thing is stressful enough that we shouldn’t need to pressure ourselves more. I would of changed things if it hadn’t worked though. If you do decide to go out have a lovely time!!

She is due in 3 weeks on Friday 😬 can’t believe it!! I’ve been feeling fine actually so I’ve been very lucky just can’t wait to finish work now xx

Go out and have a meal and enjoy yourself! You deserve the treat and it might prove a welcome distraction that helps you destress a bit. IVF is tough enough without us beating ourselves up about every last thing we eat and drink. I’m a real perfectionist and I get so obsessed about food and drink and things I should / shouldn’t be doing. I’ve come to the opinion now that the odd treat isn’t going to be the reason my IVF fails, there are bigger factors at play. I’m sure you will be able to make sensible enough choices about what you eat when you’re out for your meal and avoid the alcohol and coffee. Have a lovely time xx

TTCs profile image
TTCs in reply to Dunla

Thanks Dunla! Your advice makes total sense! It is also kind of what the GP says...If it fails it wont be becauseof what u ate or that u got ur hair dyed, there will be a chemical reason.

I haven't drank in sooo long so defo wont be drinking and will avoid caffeine. Wonder could i have a dessert though 😂

Thank you so much, i think i can enjoy myself guilt free this weekend now!!! 😘 xx

I decided that after each scan and ivf appt, we would try to do something nice whether it was lunch out or the cinema just to make the day about us and our relationship and not solely about the treatment.

You obviously eat very healthily so just choose your restaurant wisely and I'm sure you'll have a fabulous night out. Xx

TTCs in reply to S-Joys

Thanks S-Joys! That sounds like a good plan u had!

Im eating healthy now but im not usually so healthy! Love my chocolate and other bad things usually 🙈

How things with you? Xx

S-Joys profile image

Oh I love chocolate too and have cut down but still allow myself a little treat. I'm currently in my 2ww on our first round of ivf and it certainly feels all consuming.

I totally understand feeling unsure and I really don't think it's a silly question! You spend months prepping your body and we're always told that restaurants / take aways are not the best for us. But I would say go for it!

My partner and I went for a meal straight after I'd had the embryo transfer, as a sort of celebration. It took my mind of it and filled my tummy. And then I found out weeks later that I was pregnant!

Ivf is hard and stressful. Enjoy simple pleasures because it's so hard to let it taje over your life!

Good luck with the cycle!

TTCs profile image

Thank you for your reply! So pleased u got ur BFP!! Fab news! And obviously a nice meal didnt hinder anything for u! When are u due? How r u feeling? Xx

kt_11 profile image

Definitely go out and have a nice meal. You’re doing really well the rest of the time and one meal out won’t have any impact other than helping you feel more relaxed.

I was eating very healthily during my IVF and lost some weight too (I wasn’t overweight beforehand). I also cut out caffeine and alcohol. However, I definitely went out a few times during the process, and on the day of my embryo transfer I went out for a meal afterwards and then straight to my sister’s hen party (no drinking obviously)! I’m now 23 weeks pregnant...

Good luck for your IVF cycle. Keep us updated 😊 xx

I did all this stuff first and second round made myself so unhappy then on my third I'd had enough oven went and rode my horse after embryo transfer...I'm now 28 weeks pregnant ...I honestly believe it'sout of our control and it either will or won't work .I'm sure u have a better chance if it happy.just go out xx

Hello

Good luck for your IVF cycle

Do eat lots of fruits and veggies and go out for walks and dinner. I went out for dinner lots to be with friends and not think about it and it was great and weekend to do no harm as 11 weeks pregnant and happy. Xx

TTCs in reply to kglass

Oh fantastic, congratulations!! Thanks for your well wishes! Were you careful what you picked when out for dinner or just let yourself have whatever you wanted? :) xx

Hey, me and my husband went out once a week during all of our ivf and on that outing we didn’t talk about treatment or anything ivf related! It was either a meal, a walk around a national trust, a cinema trip or a day/ evening with our friends! It gave us some normality! You are doing amazingly well and it’s important to keep your self sane through this rollercoaster journey x x

TTCs profile image
TTCs in reply to Looby25

Sounds like a lovely idea! We did cinema on sunday and it was wonderful to be "normal" lol. Thank u for ur kind words and encouragement! How are things going with u? Xx

I’d say go out and have a nice time. That will be so much better for you (and your husband) I’m sure he’s not suggesting Mac Donald’s so you’ll still be able to eat good food. I was the same, gave myself a hard time over everything I did or didn’t do but sometimes you just have to give yourself a break and not be too hard on yourself. Hope you have a lovely time x

Thank u Aleelilook! Trying my best to relax and think positive thoughts. Its funny how when u feel positive the darker times are difficult to remember and when u feel down all the difficult times seems to accumulate to the surface. Actively trying to be positive!!!

How r things with u? xx
