Failed first cycle, waiting for f/u appointment with consultant.

Apologies for sad post title, but really I’m hoping for some reassurance from those who’ve been through the same.

I’d also like to take the chance to say thank you to those women who’ve offered kind words through this forum, and I wanted to offer my best wishes to all those on their journeys. I’m hopeful for each and everyone of us.

My husband and I had our first cycle of IVF through the NHS (just one free go by the way!)

Our journey came to an end 3 weeks ago in miscarriage. I have to ring the emergency gynea ward next week with the results of a pregnancy test...

We’ve been sent a follow up appointment for January with the Centre of Reproductive Medicine where we had all our IVF. Does anyone know or has anyone had experience of how long the wait will have to be before being offered our next ‘round’.

I don’t have natural menstrual periods, I’ve always had to have progesterone to trigger a bleed, I’m not hopeful my periods will re start magically...

I’ve read women’s stories of waiting for 3 periods... is it just simply down the decision of the consultant or is there a time frame?

Thanks for reading ladies, all experiences welcomed. Xx

So sorry to hear of your loss, after my first cycle ended in a MMC last year I started my FET on my 3rd cycle. It was agreed by us and my consultant however looking back now I probably wasn’t in the right head space so I would say as long as you feel strong enough to go again normally they say 3 cycles xx

So sorry for your loss. I think it depends on your clinic, mine have always allowed me to go again on the cycle after 1 bleed. I agree though with e_05, do it when you are ready, your body will be ready before your head x

Thank you for your message.

My partner and I feel ready to get started again, after having faced a loss I think it’s made us more determined to be honest. As far as we’re concerned the treatment actually worked. But this just wasn’t a viable pregnancy this time... we had a scan to show an empty sac, but my body responded to all the drugs and we created something... that’s what we’re holding onto 🤞🏼

That’s a great way to look at things, I felt very similar after my losses, I have everything crossed for you x

Myclinic says 2/3 cycles and they are clear that this is because going again too soon has a lower chance of success. They have good success rates so I trust them. However, since you don’t have natural cycles, your case is somewhat different so you’ll have to see what they recommend x

Hi there

So sorry to hear that you have been through this, it can be such a heartbreaking journey.

We had our first failed cycle back in October and possibly slightly different to you as it ended in a BFN but our clinic were happy for us to start again after one full cycle (although the follow up appointment took longer than that!). Are you at BCRM by any chance? Only as you said the Centre for Reproductive Medicine and only 1 round on the nhs which was the same as us. If so, this is where we had our treatment and for us we were able to start again as soon as we felt strong enough.

I know everyone is so different but I wanted to start again as soon as possible and I just find the waiting round for answers the hardest part.

Good luck for a positive second round x

Hi Seedgie15. So sorry to hear that your cycle has failed. I do have a couple of lists of questions I can send you to look through if you want, before seeing your consultant again. If you email me in confidence to support@fertilitynetworkuk.org I will send them to you. Thinking of you. Diane

Thank you for your message.

That’s encouraging to hear that you were allowed to continue straight away. We’re at UHCW.

Got an appointment 2nd week of Jan... it is the waiting around that is a killer!

I hope your next journey will be a successful one. Xx

Hi seedgie

So sorry to hear about your loss. Losing a baby is worst feeling ever. I hope you manage to find support from this group as it's so hard. I have blocked fallopian tubes, due to which it is difficult for me to conceive. I struggle a lot with this. I failed two IVF, I succeeded in the third cycle. Finally, I had a moment when my baby was in my hands. It was a great feeling, I can't express that in words. Although, IVF is a tough journey, but my Clinic makes it possible and easy for me, they helped me throughout. So, I just want to tell you don't lose hope & stay positive & try to find an authentic and well-reputed clinic. Good Luck.
