Confusing six-week scan: reflection?

Any experience with this? I had a 6 week + 3 day scan Thursday. We were thrilled to see a strong heartbeat (128bpm) and our little baby measuring on schedule. However, then we were directed to another heartbeat very close to it (112bpm) and what appeared to be a potential second baby that measured small. The doctor is having us come back this coming Thursday because she doesn't know if it's identical twins - possibly conjoined as my husband speculated and she shockinglingly acknowledged - or just an anomaly on the ultrasound that creates a reflection when there's actually only one baby. The heart rates were pretty different, so it would be a weird reflection...we only put back one embryo, so we would be in the <1% to have it split and become identical twins...

Having a hard time waiting until Thursday to see what's really going on!

Hiya

I had a similar thing, at 18 weeks my midwife was checking my baby with a Doppler and she found a second heart beat, which worried me. Turns out that the placenta has a pulse like heartbeat so I’m thinking maybe that’s what your doctor found. Hopefully not a conjoined twin. And with the fact you only put back one embryo Does emphasise the fact you shouldnt have twins :)

But who knows, hey!

Good luck with your appointment :D

May I ask, how different were the two heartbeats? If they were measured x

It was around 107bpm. The midwife told me A normal baby’s heartbeat is between 120-160bpm which put my mind at ease thinking it were twins :) x

UPDATE: 7+3 scan this morning showed two, separate babies sharing one sac (identical twins!) both healthy at this point - the same size and exact same heart rate ❤️ ❤️ Thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers! Xx
