Dhea has arrived!

So I've just received my dhea in the post. Suddenly getting cold feet. Has anyone taken this brand before? Just wondering about the side effects. I'm worried about the possibility of sprouting a beard and turning into an angry/shouty person 😬 Ahh, the joys of infertility 😂

I've started DHEA 4 weeks ago. I bought it from a different company though and we are just back from America where I bought it off the shelf!!!! I don't think I've turned into a man yet - only side effects seem to be slightly more oily skin and AF has disappeared but other than that no issues!!! Are you taking 75mg?

Thanks Lorraine- that's definitely good to know 😂 I was going to take 75mg a day. I've got a consultation at a clinic so I think I might wait until I've been and had a chat with the dr before I start. I'm such a scaredy cat! Did your consultant recommend it?

You need to take it for 3 months though to be effective as it works at the beginning of the egg creation bit so bear that in mind if you're waiting to see your consultant. I had spoken to my consultant after our first cycle and he didn't think it was necessary as my AMH level is just over 9 and it's recommended for women with an AMH level of 8. something! However after the 2nd cycle where fertilisation didn't occur it suggests there was a problem with the egg rather than the sperm so the consultant said it wouldn't do any harm, hopefully it will make a difference to the quality!

Thanks Lorraine. My amh is 10 which I always thought was low. I was on a high dose of stims for my last cycle and didn't respond well and we got two embryos of pretty poor quality. I went to info session tonight at private clinic and had short one to one with dr afterwards and he said that for my age (34 at the time of amh test) that 10 is within normal range. He said that the high dose of stims could've actually done more bad than good and affected overall quality. He said that obviously without seeing my notes or doing any examination and did qualify what he was saying but it's got me thinking... although if amh not as big an issue as I thought, then there's something else going wrong. It's never straight forward is it?! I've heard so many good stories about dhea though that it really does make sense to take it. Good luck with your next cycle, hopefully the dhea will do the trick xxx

I've got the exact same brand as you I bought it online and it was shipped from the states. I was recommend to take this for 6- 8 weeks before I started meds three times a day and then I would need to stop before ec, my amh is 7. I've been taking for just over two weeks no problems expect for a early period last cycle and I have read that it can interfere with your natural cycle but Dr didn't seem concerned. I hope this helps let me know if you have any other questions. wishing you all the best and hope all goes well with your next consultation xxx

Thanks very much for posting. Thanks good to know! I have completely flip flopped since yesterday and think I am going to start taking. I can always stop if they tell me too and that way not lost any time. Interestingly the age related amh chart the dr showed me yesterday had levels Of 4.1 to 80ish within the 'normal' range for my age xxx

Your welcome I felt really uncomfortable buying drugs online but my consultant said it was fine. There seems to be a lot of clinics in the USA using this but not so much in the UK yet so will be interesting to see what happens in a few years.

At my follow up appointment after failed NHS cycle, the dr said he had just got approval for a dhea trial. He said it had taken two years to get approved in the Uk. He is the lead dr and said that he would've suggested trial but that I wasn't eligible as you have to get three eggs or less. I guess if there is funding for trial and it has been approved there's clearly something to it that the experts think is worth exploring.

That's really good to know and there must be some serious evidence if the nhs are prepared to explore this as well. Wishing you all the best xxx

Yes I took it, was a bit worried like you and didn't tell my clinic- 10 weeks pregnant now!!! I'd take it again!- exactly the same brand as yours, my Amh was 4.9 and fsh 12 - so threw everything at it, felt I had nothing to loose x

Your post really confused me there - I looked at it and thought, I didn't write that 😂 that's fantastic news! I hope that I do get to write a post just like this in the not too distant future xxx

Hi, I’ve not taken it but if this cycle doesn’t work I might consider it. I just followed you so I can find the name of the brand in future - hope that’s ok! X

Well hopefully you won't need to take dhea. I've got my fingers crossed for you and hope all works out for you. I'm good just trying to be healthy and get myself into a positive mind set ready to start treatment in a few weeks xxx

Oh exciting! I am seriously considering this for my low amh but does anyone know if it helps in natural fertility? And if you should get any bloods done to test levels before hand? X
