So after 2 years or more of TTC and nothing we decided to get tested and it turns out my fiance and partner of 5 years has low sperm count and very low morphology despite his sperm count increasing after a life style change. We are now going through ICSI (IVF) and im excited and not scared one bit about the pain it may cause because the end result will be worth it if it works but my only problem is im my own worst enemy when it comes to counting the odds and having my glass half empty. Constantly convincing myself it wont work because the percentage of success is lower than the percentage of failure so it sways more to failure and im not that lucky. Also convinced myself it wont EVER happen and im very negative because im scared it wont ever be my turn. My partner is desperate for a mini us and he blames himself. They didnt test to see if my tubes are scarred etc (blocked) so could also be my fault. I mean I havent been on any form of contraception for about 6 - 7 years and never got caught even when not careful so maybe its me too.

Hi jessandandy. Well you're on the way, so hopefully keeping busy with drugs and scans etc will stop you worrying too much. The only thing I thought about, apart from what has been done, is whether you need to have your tubes checked, just in case there is a blockage that could interfere with the ICSI results. Worth an ask. Also, if you are offered a counseling session, then do take it up, as it just may calm your fears. There may be a support group nearby too, if you fancy that. You can access information about Support Groups in your area by going to our website fertilitynetworkuk.org and click on “How can we help you” – “For those trying to become parents” – support – fertility groups – England – then select the area you are looking for. Just a bit more info to mull over. Meanwhile, I wish you huge success with it all. Diane

My consultant told me that my tubes being blocked wouldn't affect the outcome of ivf, as the tubes are bypassed. This was when I went for my first round before having a dye test. Why does it matter Diane please? Can tune blockages give off nasty chemicals or something?

Hi Lizzielizzielizzie. Many specialists now believe that any natural lubrication in the Fallopian tubes, that cannot drain out through the open end of the tubes, can leak back into the womb, as it cannot get out any other way. It is often thought that this excess lubrication can prevent a developing embryo from implanting. It is more of a worry if the open ends of the tubes (fimbriae) are blocked. Diane

My clinic recommends the supplement condensyl for me with low sperm counts, you can buy it online... it has everything the little swimmers might need. Worth a try?
