Hi everyone, i am on my first round of clomid 50mg for unexplained infertility. Currently on day 18 of cycle. Have been using ov tests everyday and not had LH surge. I had bloods done before starting to confirm that i already ovulated so the clomid was to boost ovulation.
Anyone else not had LH surge when using clomid for the same reason?
Hi Journeycontinues. I think that this is because you have started on a low dose, and may need another round to "get you going". Perhaps if it happens again, why not ask your clinic if they can either do a blood test or scan you to check that the drug is doing what it is supposed to. May need to up to 100mgs. Good luck with it, and let's hope that it is all you need to get pregnant. Diane
I used them the first month and didn't see an lh surge. (Having always seen lh surge prior clomid) This caused me major stress and I mean real stress-my poor hubby was put through hell!!! I like you worried and I ended up paying a lot of money for a private progesterone blood test which proved I had ovulated that cycle. (I ended up going to a private fertility clinic)The nurse who took my blood advised against the use of ovulation tests as the clomid will affect the results-not that these greedy companies advertise that. I was then advised by my consultant (yes I was that bad I contacted my GP and consultant ) to try between days 10-22 of my cycle to maximise my chances and not to use the sticks.
As a rule of thumb you should ovulate 6-12 days after taking your last pill.
I would ask your clinic to do a progesterone blood test to put your mind at rest.

My doctor asked for follicle tracking scans when I was on clomid to check response and to advise when best to try and then followed up with a scan & progesterone test to confirm ovulation. Would be worth pushing for that next cycle if needed xx
My specialist told me that the test strips aren't always good at predicting ovulation as they never worked for me even though I knew I was ovulating. I chucked them in the bin. Chlomid obviously works for you but I didn't like taking it and only did three rounds of low dose even though it did boost my ovulation readings but it messed up my cycle dates for the time I was on it.
Hi, I was put on clomid for unexplained fertility too and nothing happened in my first month. I was usually ovulating around day 20 of a 28 day cycle - the hope was clomid would bring that forward, which it didn't. They doubled it for the next few cycles and in cycle 4 it finally worked and I ovulated on day 15, no luck though and starting cycle 5 soon. It can be a bit of a guessing game initially to see how you're body responds. Frustrating, but stick with it and keep asking questions! Sending lots of love xx
Hello I am on chlomid.
I don't use the ovulation tests . I felt that if it were to give a false reading for whichever reason that it would set me back more.
I do know I do ovulate while on it but not always sure at which point in cycle. I tend to book a blood test with my gp normally to find out if I'm unsure . Wishing you all the very best x
Thanks everyone, I think I'm just going to stop using the ov tests, seem to cause more worry than anything thing else! I know that I already ovulate so i think I'll just try another couple of cycles with the clomid and then have a follow up appointment with fertility consultant.
Had quite a lot of ovary pain this month on both sides so fingers crossed the clomid is working!
Oh one more thing on clomid my cycles became longer-they went from being every 28 days to 32 days. Clomid tends to make you ovulate later in your cycle. And there is an free online calculator which is for ladies that taking clomid- it tells you the best days to try. My consultant advised we stop using the sticks and brought some nice wine! Whose to disagree with doctors orders 🍷😏
