Tonsillitis at work?

Hi all. I'm on my 11th week and waiting for my 12-13 week scan. My midwife asked the other day if I'd been exposed to any viruses and I said no but today someone who works with me says she just came from the doctors who told her she has tonsillitis? She's been at work since she fell ill which means I have been exposed to her I guess. I do have a cough/cold but I think (touch wood) it's just a cold. But can baby be hurt if I've been exposed to this girl's virus? I looked it up and it is contagious for a certain period.

Hi KittyK. Try not to worry too much about this, as usually you would need to come into contact with her tonsillitis. Tonsillitis is usually caused by a streptococcus infection and treated with antibiotics. You would be safe to have antibiotics if needed, and the appropriate one needed, would be prescribed for you at this time. Make sure you use disposable cups or your own mug when drinking to be on the safe side - same with cutlery. Baby has a placenta now which will protect him/her too. Fingers crossed it is nothing to worry about.

Thanks Diane. I do have a cough/cold but I think it's just a normal cold - it doesn't feel any different anyway. Hopefully I'm just over worrying and all will be fine. Got another 2 weeks for my scan so in sort of going a bit mad with the waiting. It's like 2ww all over again lol thank you xxxx really appreciate it xxxx

Hi KittyK. All these waits are never easy. Just think, when you do go, you are going to see a little person and not a "bean" any more! Soooo excited for you - just one more precious moment to savour. Thinking of you, and hope your cold soon goes. Diane

Hi, that's awful. Why people don't stay at home if they are sick? How are you feeling right now?

I'm sure everything will be ok. Try to think positive and avoid people who seem to be sick.

wish you all the best

I know? To make matters worse she had today off too so I was like...Why didn't you do that in the first place?! Ugh I just really don't want to get it and have to have antibiotics. I know a lot of women do during pregnancy but I had them with my last pregnancy for a UTI and a week later miscarried so I really don't want to have to take any antibiotics :(

I feel pretty rough still coughing and it's been a week. Will give it til next week then maybe see if I can get in with my GP xxx

mother of God, feel sorry for you. noone wants to take any pills during the pregnancy. and me too. we passed 4 cycles of ivf and that was crazy. I even couldn't imagine how's it hurt. My mind and heart was empty and I didn't want to live.

You should take care of yourself. Try to relax more and eat fruits and vegetables. Vitamin C is also needed.

wish you see your GP as soon as you can.
