Embryo Transfer Today

β€’19 Replies

Hi

So I had my embryo transfer today of my first cycle.

Hadn't really thought it all through and kinda assumed because we had 6 out of 6 eggs fertilised we would have 6 embryos for transfer and freezing. Turns out we were completely wrong. Out of the 6 we had 2 which were not suitable for transfer and 4 which were average. This meant the remaining could not be frozen.

The doctor told us we still have a good chance and not to be disheartened as she has still had pregnancies with average embys.

So we were a bit taken aback as this is the first thing not to go to plan so far but on the plus side we now have our little emby on board and been told we are technically pregnant so to do everything as a pregnant person would.

Fingers crossed for our test date.

Well done for getting this far xxx we have our ET tomo and I'm excited but also nervous xx does it hurt xx

Nope apart from the speculum going in, which isn't sore just not pleasant like a normal smear, I felt nothing at all. You have absolutely no need to worry. They showed me it on the screen before putting it in. It really is so amazing how it all work.

That's great that you got to transfer! On board is good. How many did you choose to put back? We were really unfortunate, none of ours were good enough to put back. Best of luck to you!x

Yeah absolutely. I always try to be as positive as possible. I am delighted that we had some to transfer just was a but unrealistic in my head so expected different. Still hopeful though.

Sorry to hear you couldn't transfer. Are they able to try again?

I didn't think that I was overly optimistic, I was well aware of the low chances of success but you can't help but to hope for the best! We just felt a bit deflated & robbed. Yes we have another go, quite lucky in Scotland really! We have been given recommendations for the next cycle so only have to wait couple of months. All the best, you just never really know what's around the corner!x

Yes you too. Good luck with your second cycle. πŸ’ž

Your numbers sound really normal. I think about 50% of people have none to freeze. We were told they only freeze the best quality as they loose cells through the process, and they need to have a good number of cells and quality to survive the defrost. It doesn't mean the ones you have put back aren't good enough. Also we were told average quality is the norm and they have to look absolutely perfect to be given top grade. Sounds like the one they have put back for you stands a good chance. Stay positive and best wishes for the 2ww. Xx

Thanks for that.

They never told me too much so that's good to hear your comments. Gives me a better idea. A lot of the time you don't think of questions until after the appointments and you have processed things I find.

If it helps over two cycles I had 34 eggs fertilise and I have never had any to freeze either. It's dissapointing but not uncommon so just try to focus on your little embie settling into its new home! X

in reply to Lamb82

I think it was because we hadn't really understood it. They kept talking about freezing all the time and just assumed we would be freezing some.

Now we have got our heads round it and understand it more it makes sense. Also, all the comments are helping stay positive.

Thanks for the help. πŸ’ž

We have never had any to freeze either. Good luck πŸ€πŸ€

Its hard playing the numbers game isn't. Everything has gone wrong for us to even get to ET. We had 20 follicles, 8 eggs, 4 fertilised and 1 made it to blastocyst. We had to have a freeze all at the time so only the one was good enough. The clinic thought these numbers were about average. I know how you feel though after all the injections to not get the numbers you think.

Good luck. I'm on the 2WW too. x
