Really? That is terrible hun. I'm sure when I started the process in 2014 it was as long as you were under 40. They change the goal posts all the time! I was denied funding anyway as hubby has a child from a previous relationship. We were lucky enough to have the funds to go private.

Wishing you lots of luck hun. X

I'm 35 and I've just had ivf on the NHS. What area of the country do you live in, it can differ depending on hospital guidelines in that area although I also thought most areas offer it under 40 years.

Hi sorry to hear that. That's not fair at all. Are you living in England? If you are living in England which part are you?

I'm 39 in July and was giving funding in jan for one fresh cycle and 2 frozen. It does depend where you live .

Have a look at nhs homepage for ivf ( clinical commitionigg group ) CCG in your area .

Might be an idea to see if you can change area where you have treatment .

Good luck x

Sadly yes after bring told initially despite my age they were likely to consider us a special exception as my partner is infertile due to cancer. After an appeal that was subsequently rejected (and wasting over 18 months) we have saved enough money to try one go privately . Sadly it's a postcode lottery as the county where im originally from would have covered 36 year olds but I moved from Wiltshire to hampshire .

We don't get any in our area. I'm 28 and neither of us has a child. It's just that our CCG are arseholes x

We were turned down due to slightly raised fsh levels. Each ccg makes their own rules up with no reasoning behind it. It's just about them saving money. The only thing my consultant did say to me was you should come under the guidelines that were in place when you were first referred for investigation by your gp. If the age limit only came in 2016, you may be able to use this as a reason for appeal? It's such a blow when you thought you would be eligible. We have tried appealing, then complaining and our case is now being looked at by health ombudsman as there own guidelines aren't clear. But the process is long and no guarantee of success. We are self funding in the meantime as felt waiting would harm our chances. X

The age limit in my area is 39, I was 40 at the time so didn't even apply for funding. Fortunately I could go private. My last 2 attempts where in Czech Rep, much cheaper!. Good luck on your journey!

Hello

I've not experienced this myself but I do know if you look on the Infertility UK website they have templates for letters to appeal decisions on funding. I have no idea how many appeals are successful but worth a try!

You might also find it helpful to look at the IVF criteria for each area of the country on the fertility fairness website. Many areas offer funding until 39/40 so showing this 'postcode lottery' may help.

Good luck x

Sorry to hear that, I received a letter for nhs funding and it states to be used before my 40 th birthday. I would appeal there decision.

Hello, sorry to hear this. NHS Funding is down to individual Clinical Commissioning Groups and each set their own access criteria. Please have a look at the Fertility Fairness website to confirm what your CCG offers - fertilityfairness.co.uk/nhs...

You may then want to use the template letter on our website to appeal any decision -

I was denied funding at aged 32/33 not because of age because my fsh needed to be below 9 and after 3 blood tests it fluctuated between 9 and 12. It was so frustrating but our only option was private and I'm glad we were in control of all our choices and medical needs. I ❤️ my clinic so all worked out well.
