I am frustrated

After trying to conceive for a long time and undergoing myomectomy twice, a HSG test done this January shows that my falopian tubes are blocked. That i should opt for IVF. Are there any other options for me?

Hi

We had been ttc for 2 years and nothing I had an ectopic pregnancy a few years ago which resulted in my right tube being removed, all my tests came back within all the normal range so they decided to take me in for and dye and hysterocoscopy. I went back to clinic in December I have endemetorisis and my left tube is blocked and bent so we are now going down the ivf route had first appointment last week!! We discussed maybe trying to unblock my tube but consultant decided the best option would to leave it as it is and would be best to take the ivf route!! Could you not discuss with your consultant about attempting to unblock tubes I was told there was no guarantee with it and can cause scare tissue to form within the tube from surgery!! X

Hi sher108. Unfortunately, if your Fallopian tubes are blocked, then it becomes impossible for an egg to enter one of them in order for fertilisation to take place naturally. Because of this you will probably need to undergo IVF. Occasionally, tubes can be unblocked if just due to a bit of debris in the way, but if it through scarring or the open ends are blocked then any surgery would prove very difficult with added recovery time too. Sometimes a specialist will want to remove the tubes prior to IVF, depending upon the type of blockage there is, something you need to speak to the clinic about. I hope that a decision is soon made for you and that you can soon get treatment started. Diane
