Hi ladies.

I was totally shocked when my gynae consultants secretary emailed me when I was walking my 2 dogs๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ• at quarter to 8 this morning to ask if I'm able 27th July! So my hysteroscopic resection is being booked for 27th july! Hubby should be able to book it off as his work are aware of my pending surgery. Of course the secretary had to put a downer on it, by telling me that it may need to change as my consultant being in India may complicate things, but I mustn't worry, after all I wouldnt worry when she tells me I shouldn't !!

!! Oh lol girls!!! Anyway I sent a stern email back ๐Ÿ˜ˆ and made it quite clear I needed notice if that happened as my hubby is booking 27th and 28th July off as annual holiday and wouldn't be if I wasn't having surgery! And that I want him there with me.She emailed me promptly saying there would be notice ๐Ÿ˜ก I'm not going to be a push over!!! ๐Ÿ‘ŒShould get my paperwork within a few days, please wish me luck ๐Ÿ€ it doesn't get canceled feel like I've spent long enough going round in circles! ๐Ÿ™

Hope that everyone is ok and wishing you all the best and hope we all get the bfp we all deserve ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿผ

Hi Jess, so pleased to hear you have a date for your surgery. All this waiting around feels like an eternity!

I also have fibroids, as well as endo, and just wondered if you mind me asking what the hysteroscopic resection entails? The private consultant I have seen has suggested a myomectomy to remove mine as I'm also trying to conceive. My response from my NHS surgeon was "40% of women have fibroids. You're not alone." Great - thanks!

Hope it all goes well for you.

Rebecca x

Thanks Rebecca ๐Ÿ˜Š

You're consultants advice does not sound too helpful! Maybe he was trying to stop you from worrying??!!!

I was advised a hysteroscopic resection as my location of my fibroid. Mine is in the lining of my uterus and is called a submucosal fibroid, and it is small in size. Hysteroscopic resections are recommended to remove fibroids that are in that location and are less than 10cm. It's like hysteroscopy, you're under general, while the surgeon places a device through the vagina that has a camera so surgeon can get a clear view (and take photos of before and after)and opens the vagina up , pushes the cervix back, allowing better access to uterus and using a cutting hoop with electrical currant shaves away at the fibroid.

Other fibroids can be removed via myomectomy either as laparoscopy(keyhole surgery) or laparotomy (Open surgery) depending on location and size of fibroid. Sometimes if fibroids are large you will need to take GnRHa to shrink fibroids by decreasing estrogen levels.

There is a website that is brilliant for explaining fibroid treatments and tells you exactly what to expect:

britishfibroidtrust.org.uk

Obviously you will need to discuss the best way forward with your consultant ๐Ÿ˜Š When you say you saw a private consultant was that as a private patient or an nhs patient? I know that sounds stupid question to ask, but lots of private hospitals take nhs patients ( I'm at a private hospital in the general gynae clinic as a nhs patient) Are you able to get a copy would the private consultant be willing to put his/her recommendation so you could take that to your nhs consultant/ or go? Fibroids can definitely affect fertility (my gp told me mine was so small it wouldn't stop me conceiving) well the general gynae consultant said my fibroid was the reason for our otherwise unexplained infertility, as mine is in the uterus lining my body would reject any embryos as there is something there already. It does shock and appall me that some Drs can be so Blaise with fibroids if I listened to my gp my ivf would've failed and we may never have had a baby. At least now we will have a chance. If your private consultant recommends surgery do it honey you want to have the best chance. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ€I was told fibroids keep growing and don't stop till menopause brill hey?!! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ I don't know about you but mine has caused me such period problems if you have any issues lay it on thick to your nhs consultant ๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿ‘Œ

I hope that helps a bit โค๏ธ
