Combined screening result higher risk

So I had my 12 week scan yesterday at 12 week 3 days. Was on a super high after it and told our siblings and closest friends. This morning I got a call from a with held number and my heart sunk we have a 1:51 risk of downs. Age is 36, PAPP-A is normal and NT is 1.5 so normal. My free beta HCG is high which is what is driving the risk. Any one any stories about this experience? Options are to leave it, NIPT or CVS/amnio.

UPDATE: NIPT results came back as lower chance!! :)

Ask the unit you are attending for more information- they may a have a specialised nurse/ counsellor who could talk to you. Or take a look at this website arc-uk.org [Antenatal Results and Choices]

Thank you, my hospital have been amazing and am going on today to give blood for a Nipt. The Royal Mail strikes make it a challenge to get the blood sent for testing.

Hi hun, I had a similar (slightly higher) risk to yours (due to my age and high PAPP-A), I'd already had the blood test (Vision) at 11 weeks privately which I think is highly accurate and has almost no risk, which ruled out Downs etc., so I found that really reassuring. It wasn't too expensive either.

thank you! I have been offered a NIPT so giving blood for that now. I can’t think what else would give a high free beta hcg so I’m just petrified!!

It's so hard not to worry isn't it. From what I understand everyone's hcg levels vary quite a lot naturally, but it's easy for me to say that. I hope your results come back quickly hun.

thank you! Yeah it’s one of the three that is abnormal and has meant the result I have, there is nothing I can do now and and it’s nothing I have done - I just have to keep telling myself that!! Xx

Hello lovely,

I had a similar situation with a PGT-A tested embryo. I had very low PAPP-A and really high free beta HCG. Some of the measures for the baby weren't quite right either (i.e.: short femur throughout most of the pregnancy) and one of the consultants we saw was really pushing us to go for the amniocentesis. We opted for the NIPT and that came back low risk so we didn't do any other tests. My baby is now 7 months and is a healthy perfect little boy!

Waiting for the results was very hard. Thinking of you and hope you don't have to wait too long xx
