Injections

Hi everyone.

Around 4 years ago I had a laparoscopy and found out both my tubes are blocked meaning ivf was our only chance of becoming parents. I was devastated, 4 years later and we are ready to experience our first ivf journey.

Last month we had our first consultation, with the go ahead to start we are now awaiting our appoint with the nurse who will talk us through how to administer the injections. I'm so scared and excited it's starting to take over. My mind is in over drive and I have now clue what to expect or how I'm going to feel. I was wondering if anyone knew just how long it will be after we see the nurse before the dreading injections start? X

Hello ☺️I did IVF recently to freeze embryos and the start date was up to me but mainly when your next period will be so I chose which month I wanted to start. Your injections coincide with your cycle. It is overwhelming but the nurses are so helpful so try not to worry too much or stress yourself (easier said than done)!

You’ll be given information as so what to take when and will have regular scans so they can check how things are going and make changes if needs be.

Wishing you lots of luck! Xxx

Thank you so much for your really.. I found it very useful. I feel silly with asking but I just am so out of my depth and only at the start of the ivf journey. X

Sometimes my period start date differs month to month so how will I time it to start the injections? How do they make you feel? I'm worried I will be too emotional x

I know exactly how you feel. I’m doing this alone and felt worried myself but you do get your head round it and if you need to triple check everything then do! You’re not silly for asking at all!

My period differs too. I start spotting and seems to take ages for my actual period to come. At my clinic you call them on your first day of full flow and medication starts on day 2 or 3 (day 3 for me). The start date worried me too but they do advise you and as you don’t inject until the evening you will be informed when to start.

Try not to stress, eat lots of eggs, avocados and drink lots of water - all helps! But please ask if you’re not sure. It’s a daunting time but honestly you do soon get the hang of things xx

Also I avoided exercise as they say to avoid anything strenuous so I just did some walking but something light might be ok. I had some stomach pains and bloatedness so didn’t really fancy exercising anyway especially as the follicles grew as I could feel a heavy weight in my stomach plus my boobs were quite sore! Xx

Depending what protocol you are , they are a few , normal your treatment coincide with your cycle

Had so far a long protocol and a FET

On mine (fresh ) started bruselin on day 21 of my cycle every night after about 2 weeks added the second injection meriofert for a few days, had 225 mg meriofert and on the last scan my eggs weren't ready for collection so I had a few more days, 8 eggs, 4 fertilized , 2 made till day 5

My transfer failed, on my FET had just pills estrogen started with day 1 of my cycle for about 3 weeks and after that the transfer ( had progesterone after transfer both times) FET didn't implant as well, now I am on the same protocol ( fresh )

😂😂Is normal to feel like this, is an important journey in your life an is really important to be kind to you in this time, relax ( I know is impossible 🙈), try a balanced diet, take some vitamins and try to keep yourself busy to don't stress too much

Lots of hugs xxxx

Can you suggest any sort of foods/drinks to stay away from? Any kind of exercise that will help? Sorry for all the questions ha x

Will help if you join a group on FB about infertility, a balanced diet will be alright, I don't do exercises (too lazy 🙈), is a book that you can find on Amazon is called: is start with the egg, is a good book to read about supplements, are opinions and opinions some say that we are born with a number of eggs and that it is but some say that we still can produce eggs and is important to have a healthy diet for good quality eggs

Hope that will help you ask girls on this group as well if you have any concerns, is a great bunch of lovely ladies, is so easier to go through when you are not alone xxxx

Hello. Injectibles were never easy for me mainly due to dreadful needle phobia..I had my dh doing those for me.. I just generally tried to be healthier on the run up to my IVF cycle. I drank plenty of water to keep myself hydrated, ate lots of fruit and vegetables and took my prenatal vitamins. (Which I always took anyway). Unfortunately I ended up with a BFN. But when I was getting ready to start my following cycle I did exactly the same thing! And succeeded!!

I'm sure you'll get lots of different tips from the lovely ladies on here!

It really is a rollercoaster! We seem to spend an eternity having all the tests under the sun and then finally we get to start treatment! I found the IVF cycles even worse! I went through lots and lots of different emotions! Though the support I got on here was invaluable!

Good luck!!

Thank you all for the advise, it is very much appreciated! I now have the injections in my fridge ready to start. I never thought I'd say this but I'm excited for my period ! I just hope it works.. that's my biggest fear. I have tried to relax and drink plenty of water. I do worry my diet can be better though x
