I’ve been absent from the forum for a while due to illness. A month after I lost my husband, I ended up in the ICU. My H and H was 6 and 19 I think. I was bleeding from my esophageal varicies. They identified the bleed and tied them off. My liver was close to not functioning at all, and because of the build up of ammonia, They were unable to wake me. They were able to reverse that with medications that reduced the ammonia build up though. I know that I had at least 4 transfusions, but it could have been more. I was out of it for a few days. After 11-12 days in the hospital, I was discharged to a rehab hospital. They felt that I needed to build my strength. Then to home with VNA for 2 months.

BUT..this story has a bright side. I was treated while I was inpatient by the transplant team. They suggest I go through their evaluation. One month after my evaluation, I was added to the national liver transplant list! I’m so thankful, but also nervous. I’m facing yet another huge event without my husband by my side. Im not sure I’ll ever get used to that. 😔 I have my bag packed, and I’m ready to go when I get the call. I’ll keep you posted.

I’m so happy that you made the list I’m terribly sorry that your husband is not here but I believe he’s right by your side and he might not be physically here but spiritually he is I will be praying for you God Bless you on your journey

Thank you so much Daylene. Jim is so close to my heart. I pray he is right by my side as well. When he first passed away in Feb, I saw lots of signs that he was nearby. I don’t see them any more. I never stop watching though.

Hoping for the best outcome. Praying for you to have peace in the journey and an undercurrent you feel of love and joy. I am sorry you are doing without your Beloved but you are stronger than you know. The love you two shared stays alive in your heart when you remember him. It sounds cliche but you are so blessed to have found each other and shared something so powerful words don't do it justice, so powerful that it lives on. Be blessed! Thinking of you and praying.

Thank you so much for your prayers. You’re right..I am so thankful for the love we shared. It was a very special love. Every time that I told him I loved him, he’d stop dead in his tracks and look at me with such love in his eyes. He’d say, “ I know you do honey, I feel it so much.” I am so thankful that he knew how much he was loved.

I was told that by blood test my MELD is 13 after a ablation of a cancerous area of my Liver. 2.5 cm. However my GI Doctor told me on the 23rd that for transplant my MELD 33 due to very high risk of Cancer again. They want to do it in Cincinnati near my home. So hopefully early next year I will havea transplant under my belt.
