did you know coffee seems to protect your liver from fibrosis or "hardening"?

there has been lots of news about how good coffee is for your liver and seems to help prevent some of the problems associated with fatty liver. Does anyone know if this is true for both standard coffee and decaf? eurekalert.org/pub_releases...

I have started drinking coffer again after reading the research. Just 1 or 2 a day.

I don't like coffee nevertheless, find this theory rather interesting, thank you for posting.

thanks, it's definitely been shown in a number of studies that there is a "hepaprotective" effect from coffee, but I not sure that the precise mode of action is yet known.

I'd better keep this information to myself because I am always complaining about my husband's desire for fine Scottish whisky coupled with beer and the potential long term effects on his liver. Now he will tell me he'll slot in a few more cups of coffee to the mix ...

It's a very good point, it might be that people think it's safe to maintain a high burden on their liver if they think they are getting some protection from coffee, but ideally we should be reducing the burden AND getting some protection. For example, it's not well known that smoking causes liver fibrosis, as does a sedentary lifestyle. All these burdens add up!

I was recently told by my Liver Doctor to drink at least 4 cups of coffee a day, when first diagnosed I was told to cut down or completely off of coffee.
