Surely fibrosis is same as cirrhosis?

Fibrosis (or scarring) starts to happen when your liver is gradually being damaged by a liver condition.

Fibrosis moves through several stages before becoming cirrhosis.

The stages are F1, F2 & F3. Stage F4 fibrosis = cirrhosis.

Moving from F1 fibrosis to cirrhosis can take a long time, and progress can be slowed down or even stopped by a healthy diet and gentle daily exercise, and treating other liver conditions such Hep C that might co-exist. If you have any fibrosis you should avoid alcohol and anything else that puts a burden on your liver.

My fibroscan report says NAFLD-NASH without evidence of Cirrhosis. Does this mean I don't have fibrosis?

in reply to Granny56

your fibroscan report should give you a kPa score which would indicate what stage of fibrosis you might have. According to the manufacturer the kPa score relates to fibrosis stage as follows:

F0 or F1: 2 to 7 kPa

F2: 7.5 to 10 kPa

F3: 10 to 14 kPa

F4 cirrhosis 14 + kPa

Yes, I have stage F1 fibrosis, according to liver biopsy. I am hoping to reverse it.

in reply to Hope4MyLiver

Just goes to show that it's good know your stage and make a plan! What kind of biopsy did you have and can you describe what it was like to have the procedure?

I had a needle biopsy guided by CT scans. The doctor doing the procedure convinced me that I did not need to have the sedative that is normally administered, so I didn't. I kind of wish I had. The needles used to numb the area had to punch through the abdominal wall, and it was uncomfortable. If I have to have another one in future, I will ask for the sedative.

After the biopsy, I had to lie down in a hospital bed for six hours to be sure that there would be no bleeding. That part was just tedious.

I started out in 2013 with NAFLD and in the last year I'm NASH 2 Fibrosis with banding and Septa is level 3. Not cirrhosis quite yet they said told me follow instructions and I can go quite sometime without severe issues. I am trying hard to take care of myself. Exercise is hard due to failure of a lumbar back surgery in 2007. I'm type 2 hard to control diabetic, now back is very bad, but I do my very best . Prayers and Blessings to everyone here
