Monthly Group Fast: May/June Fast

We try to hold a group fast on or around the first Sunday of the month. As I am planning a solstice fast (around 21 June), this weekend makes more sense than next.

The regular monthly fast is simple. Anyone doing an extended fast shares it here for support from fellow fasters. We will cheer you on, and tell you to stop if we are worried it's not healthy. (But don't rely on us for health advice, of course!)

We must all decide for ourselves if fasting is safe and healthy for us, but once you have established that, please use this discussion to achieve your goal. If you aren't sure what is safe and healthy for you, ask some questions and we can help you decide, or direct you to your GP.

The purpose of the group fast is for us to give each other support and encouragement.

Post your fasting plan here, then while you are fasting, updates on how you are feeling. Ask for help or advice or share hints on what helps you. Let us know how you did at the end, and maybe share a picture of your fast-breaking meal.

I often start my fasts after my last meal on a Sunday. Others prefer to fast over the weekends starting Friday. It's all good. Use this thread to support any elongated (for you!) fast you are doing.

There is no minimum length. If you normally raid the fridge at 3am, then skipping that is a worthwhile goal and counts. If you are already intermittent fasting, then 36 hours is a good next step: no eating for a day + 2 sleeps.

Don't hesitate to start your own discussion/thread if that helps your goals. We are all supporting each other, and so should do whatever we need to be successful.

Remember, while it seems likely that fasting strengthens the immune system in the long term, stress can lower your immunity in the short term. You may be more vulnerable to infections during and immediately after fasting. Consider your personal risk of exposure to coronavirus when planning a fast.

I would not advise fasting on the days following the day you are vaccinated.

I haven't done much fasting this year, so it's time. Starting Saturday, Sunday or Monday night (depending on social activities), I will do a simple water (and tea/coffee) fast. Planning 36 hours, but may stretch it to 60 if the muse takes me there.

I fasted early last month - so this weekend suits me.I will (again) be doing a six-day autophagy fast - Starting this Thursday - fasting till Wednesday. Last time I got 6 pounds below my target weight - and it took me weeks to get back up to my target weight - so I will be eating every day: low protein, low carb - cream, a little yoghurt, perhaps an avocado.

Will you be joining us Dianenonebutme ?

Count me in. As the previous short fast was very doable , I will start on Sunday and plan to do a 36 hr water fast. If all goes well I may go longer

Autophagy Fast started.

Dr Mindy says I need to keep my protein intake below 20gm per day, so I am eating:

300ml of cream - 4.5gm protein, 1,345kcal

and 1/7 kg yoghurt - 7.5gm protein, 57 kcal

per day.

I have an avocado, which, apparently has 4gm of protein.

so that will be 16gm of protein today.

I am now halfway through my six-day autophagy fast - and it is going well:Only about a pound of weight loss (I lost 6lb on my last fast)

I have not felt short of energy, walking 5km.

Are you (all) starting today?

Well done. Glad you are feeling well.

I may try to fast starting now, so how I feel this evening (I am mostly OMAD). I have a big day tomorrow, 6 or 12 hours on my feet. Not sure if I want to do that fasted.

🤔

You might contemplate a keto, autophagy, zero carb fast - which would give you the benefits of a water-fast without the hypoglycaemia?

When I was doing traditional water-fasts, I had slight hypoglycaemia - but not on the first day.

I don't get hypoglycemia, I just get hungry.

😂

(used to get it bad - if I skipped two meals I would faint or vomit - but I am thoroughly fat adapted now.)

I might be out for this one, and do a fast for the solstice. I wasn't able to fast yesterday, but I didn't eat much. I had an exhausting day, walked over 20km and on my feet for 15 hours with just a couple of breaks.

So, I am not well fed enough from yesterday to want to fast today so see you all in the middle of June.

Sorry 🙏

6 day autophagy fast complete - no problems.According to Dr Mindy Pelz "Fasting benefits Chart", you do not get much autophagy after 5 days, so I will probably fast less than 6 days next time.
