I have just completed my regular 68-hour fast. I fit fasts in between scheduled meals - and I have an Age Concern meal alternate Fridays - so I have been fasting every four weeks.
Once you have exhausted your glycogen reserves (about 2,000 calories) you can only exercise at the power determined by the rate at which you can assimilate energy from fat less your Basal Metabolic rate. When you exercise you might get a bit hypoglycaemic and need to slow down or rest - but I would have thought that one's blood glucose levels would have been topped up overnight - but I am not feeling very energetic this morning. I broke my fast with 500ml of full-fat live yoghurt as usual, as it is carbohydrate-free and will re-populate my gut biome.
Last time I think I exercised too much in hot weather 48 hours into the fast - so I exercised less this time. Every time I fast there has been some complication - like two heatwaves and the hot weather yesterday. On Wednesday I had my flu jab and shingles vaccination - and I am wondering if that is significant.
I ate a bit more last week, and got three pounds above my target weight - and the morning I was two ponds below - so I think I am on target. Last time I fasted Thursday to Sunday I was back stable at my target weight by the Tuesday.
How are you all getting on with your fasting?
