How long is recovery from facial palsy?

Hi everyone, my name is Amy, I am 21 weeks pregnant and only just out of hospital after suffering an attack of LMN facial paralysis. I am not vain, but the sudden change has left me disorientated and devastated. I can't sleep, thinking "what if I wake up and I'm worse?" Or "What if I can't hold my newborn because I'm paralysed?" I am not coping well, and I would love to hear how long it took for some of you to recover from facial palsy, at least partly? It might help me to stop panicking so much about my droopy face. Thank you in advance.

Hi Amy, every person's situation is different so it's difficult to say how long recovery may take. We have a support group on Facebook specifically for people who had facial paralysis in pregnancy which might be of interest to you, this is the link: facebook.com/groups/FPUKFac... hope you feel better soon.

Sorry I meant to reply to you ages ago and forgot, but thank you for being the only one to reply to me it made me feel brilliant that someone cared enough to answer! Your group did help me and I'm much better now, the palsy is almost gone entirely although I still have a slight drop on that side which may never go away. That's okay, I can handle that, it was the stress of thinking it would worsen that had me so panicked. So thank you very much for being kind enough to reply and to introduce me to that group 🙂

Hi Amy,

Congratulations on your pregnancy! You must be so excited. My palsy started 2 months after I gave birth to my son in 2001 (feeling old now 😳🤣) and unfortunately I still have mine

☹️. I know it's hard but you need to rest for you and your baby, I know how distressing and confusing it all is for you right now especially when all you want to do is enjoy your pregnancy.

Sending lots of love and hugs to you and baby ❤️

Hi there! Thank you so much for responding to my post I really appreciate it. Baby is doing great and my face is recovering slowly but surely! One little bit at a time! I don't think I'll ever look as I did but even a small improvement is fab 😆 now that I've gotten used to it, I'm trying to do as you say and enjoy the rest of my pregnancy. Thank you for the support 😄
