Teeth....

I had Bell's palsy just over two years ago. I have not made a full recovery. I have had a problem with my teeth recently. I was wondering if anybody else has had teeth problems. It is the same side that was affected. Thanks

I've had problems on the BP side of my mouth. The dentist now takes twice the amount of time working that side as he knows I can't open it properly, so it never gets the proper brushing the good side gets. Have had one new filling and a couple replaced.

Following a brain stem stroke, 13 years ago, I've been in my dentist's chair, at least once, if not more, almost every month of every year. To say the least, it's been exhausting.

I've lost teeth that have been been replaced with crown upon crown, veneers, and space. I might as well have the oral surgeon, dermatologist, neural surgeon, and endocrinologist on speed dial. I'm grateful to have had Delta Dental insurance pick up about 80% of the expense. My out-of-pocket dental costs, however, have run about $1700 a year, and I still have work to be done.

This all comes with surgery on my eye and nose, some loss of taste and smell, some hearing loss and dysphasia (swallowing problem) which has been somewhat overcome to a by experimental, non-invasive s-t-r-e-t-c-h-I-n-g of my esophagus.

I was 55 when the BP symptoms evolved. I'm 68, now, and have learned that as we age our teeth shift forward. The subsequent crowding impacts my problems; furthermore, I can't sing the National Anthem at a ball game, hymns in church, or children's' songs with my grandkids. This is not good, but beats one alternative! ☠

I suggest you:

* INVEST in dental insurance (which I thought was unnecessary 14 years ago!).

* NEVER neglect having dental and vision check-ups, and

* FLOSS OFTEN without regard to whether or not you need to. You probably do!

GOOD LUCK and DON'T LAMENT. You have lots of company. :(
